No need tumi la. been using American tourister luggage that gotten free from Citibank cc sign up. Think more than 7-8 years old liao. Exterior looks like cmi but everything still working fine.

Sent from ME using GAGT

if damage while travelling overseas just claim from insurance, can get a new luggage free.

samsonite luggage is the best

But very easily get scratches all around. Last time bought a used-once Samsonite from friend, check in airport in its shiny new look, came out from destination airport like some beaten up weakling. :(

hi,

thinking of buying a checked luggage for trip to UK in May for about 11 days,

I am thinking to buy a metal frame luggage BUT i am not sure which brand is value for money,

readup and saw that people recommend TUMI but most if not all their luggages are zipped ones and i am not keen in the zipper design as i worry that it might ruptured and contents get spilt out, and also it is not water proof so if rain, contents might get wet,

so for those plastic hard case with metal frame luggage,

can anyone share what brand and model which you have bought and used and last you quite some time,

also about the size, it seems like 27 or 28 is best for most airlines and it was mentioned that the larger the luggage you might over pack and cause the weigh to exceed so not recommended to get like 29 or bigger ones as these might be easily overweight and airlines might charge more for larger luggages,

can anyone share their experience or knowledge ?

I have 2 large luggages. One is Eminent hard case bought since 1998 so far no dented, only wheels spoiled twice. changed at their service centre very cheap only $5 - S$8 per wheels. When it is fully packed, the weight is around 23-25kg

Another one is a very big luggage - American touristor, soft case, free gift from OCBC. The handle dropped off after our first trip. Went to service since still under waranty, they replaced a new luggage cos they dun have matching colour handle. So far ok no spoil after few trips except the 2 wheels cracked recently. When fully packed, the weight is around 26kg.

BTW, servicing at American Tourister/Samsonite is not cheap. If I remember correctly, I saw that servicing per wheel is S$40.

All my trips need to have large luggage as we always travel as family 2 adults and 2 children and usually travel for more than 7 days. So far no problem.

Ya, depends on individual preferences. But hard case should be better, and a four wheels is certainly better. But the way the staff throw the luggage, will worry whether if it will spoil.

I prefer soft case luggage more.

Normally I will try to make the total weight below than 25kgs as some of airlines have weight limitation per piece, they will reject your luggage if it is above the allowed weight...
