Recommendation?

I'm looking to buy my first ebook reader. The e-ink display is what I'm interested since I could read it without any glare. The options I view was the kindle paperwhite sold in qoo10. Was wondering is it good enough to read A4 size pdf files? I did consider using an ipad mini for reading too but I might be distracted to surf the net after a while. Any good recommendations other than the kindle? Thanks!

The kindle paperwhite is a good buy. It'll be my choice when my trusty Nook which has served me so well finally dies.

Just make sure you get the correct version (Jap 2014).

kindle is more popular than kobo/nook in sg, so you'll probably get that in the recommendation and responses.

i've used the kindle since the keyboard 3g, and i'll tell you that for A4 pdf reading, other than the kindle dx (OOS), all the ereaders are bad. this is especially true if your pdf has any image, charts or equations/latex. the larger the page size of the pdf, the lower the quality of reading on the kindle.

if your pdf is all words, then the page size (A4 in this instance) is irrelevant. just send the pdf to the kindle and it will be converted to .mobi/amazon .azw format that has text reflow, where you can adjust text fonts.

If your A4 pdf document is non-flowable, i.e., they consist of complex graphics and layout, then an iPad is better (even an iPad mini can be too small). But if the pdfs are just text, then it's fine (because it can be converted to flowable.)

Thanks for the advices, I have more pdfs that consist images. So probably the ipad wil be better choice? Also, can the kindle display japanese words?

yes, an iPad-size tablet may be a better choice. The kindle can display Japanese characters.
