Hi guys, thinking of getting a new laptop. Wishes for a 17" one as I almost always used at home only. Battery life is not important (I usually just take out the battery at home). Don't play any games, just basic Internet, Youtube and such. So definitely not looking at gaming models. I just like a hugh screen for videos/web.

Recently saw an Acer model (forgot which one) at Challenger for less than $1500. But had mixed experience with Acer before. I had 1 than served perfectly for 5 years, another that's a lemon.

Prefers an Asus / Dell or HP. Lower price is definitely better.. Any other models that I should look at?

Yeah also interested. My desktop is going to retire soon, mobo failing.

Intend to get a basic 15.6" to 17" laptop for office work, surf net, music and movies/youtube.

Roughly how much must I set aside?

I rather go with Dell and hp
I was a HP supporter for many years and currently using the Envy 15 for last few years. However, found out the Envy series had a flawed design in the hinges. Mine broken within 2 years and HP refuse to honor the warranty. Google and you will see it is a well-documented flaw in many Envy laptop, but HP said is due to rough handling. The fact is the laptop has been sitting on the desk 90% of the time, never dropped, never held by the screen etc. Now I can't close it, as it will break the keyboard part of the casing.

So no more HP for me for a while.

Yes, I saw those, but buying on Ebay means no warranty. Kinda nervous about that for laptop. Prefer with at least 2 - 3 years local warranty.

No need worry. I have been using eBay laptop for decade. They last for years more than 5 years.

How did you mange to get $200 off? I can't get $200 off even if I add both cart and shop coupon.
Sorry just read your post. There is a shop coupon of $80 and a Black Friday $120. And you need to add in extended warranty to make more than $1500, so can use coupons. But not sure if still valid now.

Buying from ebay cheaper? I'm looking for 15.6" to 17" (HD resolution) to replace my dying desktop.

Hey guys, I am looking for a laptop to replace my dying desktop. A 15.6" to 17" with HD resolution will be best.

Any recommendations? I'm fine with either Intel or AMD.

When I last checked, there were plenty of 15.6" with HD screen. Most around $700 or less, iirc. And usually these are with lower CPU like i5 or i3. Not much difference, except whichever brand you're more comfortable with.

Most of the entry level ones are only 1366x768 only, not HD.
