hi, any recommendations for baby cot?

currently we have a few in mind:

1) traditional wooden cot (saw some good deals for happy cot for the upcoming bb fair) - requires quite a bit of space if i'm not wrong? but very sturdy, durable & would be able to last bb till at least 3-4 years old + railings can be pulled down to co-sleep (?)

2) joie/graco playpen with rocker - one of the first cots we noticed at the prev bb fair. we liked that it is all-in-one, i.e playpen, cot, plus detachable rocker. also it can be folded & packed for travel which is extremely useful. but not as sturdy, not able to co-sleep & have heard that some infants reject such cots; is it not as comfortable?

3) side sleeping cribs - not too keen on this as bb will outgrow quickly.

initially we were considering #3 bcos of space constraints (we will be staying with parents for the time being). thought of getting a side sleeping crib then "upgrading" to a proper wooden cot once we've gotten our own place. but definitely not cost efficient. so we're now more keen on options #1 & #2.

any suggestions or comments? thanks in advance :)

Personally I would go for the cheapest option. Luckily we didn't buy and relative passed us their IKEA cot. It is super hard to breastfeed baby at night if sleeping in cot. End up my wife co sleep when she return back to work. Cot barely used for 3mths only.
Invest in a big bed is better.. unless you're super hardworking and can continue to carry, pat, feed the baby throughout the night..

thanks for the suggestion. we dont mind co-sleeping in a c/s crib or cot, but not with the bb on the bed for safety reasons. from what i understand, its not advisable to sleep with bb on the bed & even if it is tiring i believe we would wanna take this precautionary measure bah. we are a bit kiasu & dont want accidents to happen. =:p

We had the same mindset and we read alot online. However my wife gave up after 3months+.. haha. It's really not easy to wake up every 1 to 2 hr, if lucky 3hr, then lift the baby from cot to feed, pat then put back carefully without waking him/her up. Worse if you need to work the next day...

yea i understand. that’s why c/s cribs are quite useful cos it’s easy to place bb back after feeding. we have the same thing in mind as well, the problem of having to wake & carry bb from cot to feed & back to cot. that’s why thought to come & ask for suggestions. :)

I got an IKEA cot, very happy with it. DD is almost 2 and still sleeps in it every night.

I agree that side cribs are a waste of $ as they will outgrow very quickly. I placed the IKEA cot just a few steps from my bed and did not find it troublesome at all.

Btw, please don't get a drop-side cot. They have been linked to fatalities.

For pack-and-play, I personally didn't see much use for the other features (rocker, playpen). She had a floor mat to play on and a cheap rocker chair.

Hope this helps!

thanks! very helpful suggestion. :) am leaning towards traditional wooden cot too but husb prefers the idea of travel playpen cum cot. so we are torn between which to get, haha.

I co sleep with my 3 kids since infancy days..easier for latching.. my cot has a panel that can be lowered down to align to the side of my bed.

Actually co sleeping has lotsa benefits as long as it's not on the same bed ba

yep i agree! i would love to co sleep (not on the same bed) but unfortunately the travel cots cum playpens don’t allow for that. i was thinking of getting the wooden cot which can be lowered to align with bed too. that way it’s easier during night feeds. but gotta convince husb though cos he seems to prefer the idea of the joie/graco playpen cum cot :(

btw, would also appreciate recommendations for wooden cots with railings that can be lowered :)

planning to purchase during upcoming baby fair. saw some of such cots cost $1k upwards which i feel is a bit steep.

Personally I get wooden cot and it's not so painful to my back since it has few levels to adjust the height as baby grows up. Unlike travel playpen which only has two options.

Recently a few of my friends bought bumper bed for their newborn baby and toddler. I am also thinking to change it already because my gal is already too big for her existing white wooden cot.

I think if you are looking for long term usage can consider bumper bed.

Otherwise, I saw baby cot from Bonbijou also not bad too.

You should go down take a look to see if you like it.

hi, thanks for the reply. i actually saw a wooden cot from jarrons (happy cot 5-in-1) selling for abt $100 or so - preorder price for upcoming baby fair. so thought to get that as it’s considered quite cheap for a wooden cot. but not many reviews on it. think won’t be using for long bah, probably only up till 4 y/o or so? how old is your girl now?
