Hi all,

Would like to DIY a rig from scratch, was using laptop for the past 5-8years for gaming. Would like a quotation for a gaming rig to play games like bf4, unity, mmorpgs and also for streaming movies. Do not need a mouse, monitor, keyboard. Budget wise so long not over $2k would be fine.

Hope the following criteria can be fulfilled as well.

-Able to SLI
-Hoping to use a GTX970
-Decent cooling
-Windows 8.1?
-Able to add wc in the future

Thank you for your time. :)

When will u SLI? What monitor u using? $2k for SLI is a bit hard, unless u gonna add another gpu later which is not part of the $2k budget.

WC will cost another $1.5k since u gonna SLI.

Just some points to take note.

When will u SLI?
Not so soon, not with the current $2k budget.

What monitor u using?
Will be using my Sharp TV as a monitor. If it doesn't support then I will buy a new monitor.

It shall be assumed that your Sharp TV is capable of 1080p or less unless proven otherwise. It shall also be assumed that you will not be doing any OC until you have an SLI setup and WC setup in the distant future.

CPU+ Mobo: GIGABYTE Z87X-D3H + i5 4690K (544)
RAM: G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X 2133MHZ ( 4GBx2pcs ) CL9 (128)
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 970 4GB TWIN FAN (509)
SSD: CRUCIAL MX100 256GB (160)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SUPERFLOWER HX 600M GOLD MODULAR (109)
Case: CORSAIR 450D (179)
OS: WINDOWS 8 HOME PREM (138)

Total cost: $1861

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:

1) The Z87X-D3H is capable of supporting SLI and comes with 8+0 phases for good OC stability.

2) An i5 4690K is used as games generally do not benefit much from hyperthreading and thus it is more cost effective to just get an i5 and OC it yourself for maximum performance at a minimal cost.

3) The GTX 970 is capable of playing Battlefield 4 and all MMORPGS smoothly in 1080p or 1440p. However, due to bad coding in Assassin Creed: Unity, you may get gameplay issues with this rig when playing this game.

4) The Corsair 450D is chosen as it is capable of supporting a 360mm radiator on the top and a 280mm radiator on the front, which is good enough for most WC builds unless you want to go for extreme builds.

5) This rig is NOT intended for OC straight out of the box. If you want to OC this rig, upsize the PSU and buy an aftermarket CPU cooler.

Thanks everyone for the response. I will SLI but not now as running out of budget after this rig. Was thinking to SLI with another 970 maybe in a few months times and changing to a better monitor capable for 1440p. As for the PSU will be getting a higher wattage so support future upgrades.

CPU+ Mobo: GIGABYTE Z87X-D3H + i5 4690K (544)
RAM: G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X 2133MHZ ( 4GBx2pcs ) CL9 (128)
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 970 4GB TWIN FAN (509)
SSD: CRUCIAL MX100 256GB (160)

DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SUPERFLOWER HX 600M GOLD MODULAR (109)
Case: CORSAIR 450D (179)
OS: WINDOWS 8 HOME PREM (138)

For this build if I want to play unity, which parts need to be changed?

i5-4690k + Msi z97s sli plus ~ $471
G.skill RipjawsX 8gb kit ~ $115
Crucial mx100 256gb ssd ~ $155

Would this build be able to play unity?

If I want to do wc, would the Corsair 450D be big enough to support all the equipments? Would be doing wc for the CPU, GPU & RAM. Does the IT shows still sell these parts or only Funan and SLS sell nowadays?

1) The performance issues in Unity is caused by bad coding, no amount of atas hardware is going to help improve the bad performance in Unity unitl the folks at Ubisoft brings out a new (and likely very large) game patch.

2) It should be, the 450D is relatively roomy for a mid-tower.

3) No one sells custom WC stuff in Singapore today, you will have to import them yourself.

Can play but now wan to maxxed it very difficult since its a bugged game :s22:

Fps lock @ 30 and crappy on pc currently, need to wait for patches and updates for it

Yea the 450D is a decent case. WC stuff in SG should be pretty expensive I think, most ppl here order from online and fix their own

Oh no no, what I meant was does the upcoming SITEX or the IT shows still sell individual parts like SSD, GPU, mobo & cpu. WC I will most likely have to order online but that would be much later as the cost of wc would be almost as much as the rig itself.

32gb ram for bf4? Summore, all components running on top of mobo box. Max cooling from TDK fan blowing at it.

One question, if I were to get R.O.G mobo, which one would be more suitable for me? The VII Ranger or the VI Hero?
