Normally for a printer cartridges, you would have a special standalone black ink cartridge and a set of colour cartridges which has a black as well. If I just want to print black n white document with no colours at all, which black cartridge should I buy? The standalone black cartridge or the black cartridge in the colour set?

Which printer model specifically? Best to check the manual to confirm. E.g. Not sure about the newer printers in the market, the inkjet printers I've had with separate inks cartridges (cyan/magenta/yellow/black), it won't run if any tank is empty. E.g. Can't run on black alone. If black run out first, just buy black alone to replace is fine.

But if you're referring to printers that only have a single cartridge slot, and they sell a standalone black-only cartridge vs a black+colour cartridge, I would take it to mean it should support running on either. Definitely go black alone will be more cost-effective. Check manual to confirm.

This part, have to be careful. A lot of printers are designed such that if you don't put ALL the colour toner / cartridges in, cannot print at all. Worst for some is, even if 1 colour is finished, they don't let you print anymore.

Omg!!! It’s so silly. Now I have to buy all

That is also why I just go for mono laser All-in-one. For colour prints, go shop and print. But of course, if you got $$, convenient is the main thing, then just buy lah.

been using inkjet Epson L220 for 4.5 years. very durable. Refill per bottle is $9.90 and can easily be found in popular bookstore.

inkjet requires regular usage (print every 1-2 weeks) and maintenance (every 6 months)

happy Epson user
