Hi,

Looking for a high end workstation class ultrabook with the following specs

Intel i7 8th-gen 6c12t processor
32GB memory
1TB NVMe SSD
15" 4K display
Ultrabook form factor (thin and light)

Was thinking of the new XPS 15 (9570) or the HP Spectre x360 15, but they seem to top out at only 16GB memory/512GB SSD.

Anything in the same class that supports 32GB memory/1TB NVMe SSD?

Personally I use remote desktop/VNC from my cheap laptop to access my server at home.

I find laptops too much of a compromise, you have either thin and light or a heavy fat one with performance.

Off the top of my head i think the 2018 macbook should fit your requirements except for the 4K screen

The laptop needs to be mobile hence the need for a laptop. It also needs to run Windows so Macbooks aren't appropriate. Thanks though.

Back in school this is what I did. I run TeamViewer on my desktop at home and access it with my iPad at school as I had no laptop.

Sorry, not familiar with HP's range because 1) their website is sh*t, 2) they tend to be less user friendly to service, 3) I never liked their keyboards and layout

Checked out both HP and Lenovo, they don't seem to have anything that fulfills my criteria. Looks like only the Dell Precision 5530 does. Thanks again!

Sorry, Workstations and Ultrabooks are not compatible.

Not true, seeing I've already found 1 option that meets my specifications, which is the Dell Precision 5530.

Note I'm not asking for the highest specs in an Ultrabook form factor. I'm asking for a "workstation class" spec (which I've explicitly specified) in an Ultrabook form factor. There's a difference.

There aren't many options out there, but to say there's no such thing is a fallacy.

MSI WS63 8SK but doesn't seem to be available locally

Thinkpad T580 and latitude 15 (though no 4k) sub 2kg, but more business level.

zbook studio g5 but local site doesn't show

sorry to offer so many options with "buts" lol

Lenovo Thinkpad T580 specs up to i7-8550U AFAIK, which is a 4c8t processor. I'm looking for a 6c12t one like the i7-8750

HP Zbook Studio G5 looks like it might check all the boxes, but like you said, I can't find it locally.

I actually won't recommend a 6c/12t processor in an Ultrabook form factor. Even in a fat gaming laptop with chunky heatsinks and a spider web of heatpipes, a 4c/8t can easily hit past 80 degs to 90 degs. While it is possible to squeeze a 6c/12t processor in an Ultrabook, it is unlikely to sustain its performance before throttling a lot, which pretty much negates any benefits with the extra cores. 15W processors are best suited for Ultrabook.

Quick question, do we need static IP from telco if we wanna do remote desktop using apps like VNC?

Local brand but probably the cheapest of the pack given your spec reqs(build quality is a little less, performance no diff imo):

Aftershock Prime 15 - 4k IPS screen, 32gb ram, 1TB Samsung 970 NVME, GTX 1060 - 3.4k SGD

Premium brands:

MSI GS65

Gigabyte Aero 15x

Acer Triton

ROG Zephyrus

All these support 32gb ram and 4k screen but probably have to buy from overseas except ofc aftershock. Suggest you wait for Black friday unless you buying from Aftershock.
