Recommended GTX 1080Ti?

Any specific brands to recommend? Back then the less branded names such as Galax/Palit/Zotac had a poorer reputation.

Is that still the case now?

Also, any point topping up the additional $100 to get a RTX 2080?

Using galax/zotac. No complain.

$100 for real time Ray tracing and DLSS lor. Upcoming tech. I don't see those becoming a norm in at least 2 years. So I'm skipping it till quite a few generation ahead.

Also, choosing Galax because waterblock availability is better as I'm planning custom water loop route.

I recommend avoiding Zotac if going for custom loop. Many issues due to different PCB even for same model, sometimes see luck one. But if you confirm can get a waterblock that is guaranteed to fit, then it’s still a viable option

Prefer galax. Especially their EXOC white models. Solid build, good temps, chio also.

A bit late to buy new GTX 1080 Ti now. High demand so the price has increased. Maybe low stocks too. Because 2080 was a disappointment, people went with GTX 1080 Ti for cheaper thus increasing demand/price.

If i have to recommend, go with EVGA 1080 Ti SC2 or FTW3. They have international warranty and they are 2 slot coolers. Cooler is well made and runs cool & quiet.

Using 1080ti SC black and these are in no way “cool &quiet”. Due to our high ambient temperatures and how I set my fans to 100% at 70c any modern gpu playing any modern game will hit this fairly quickly even with adequate airflow. From my usage so far it is a tad louder than my previous MSI twin frozr GTX 970 while both at max fan RPMs using a similar “max fans at ~70c” most probably due to the smaller heatsink/fan on the 1080ti.

Still found it to be a great value as I got it at $966 brand new from Newegg and has international warranty.

That's what I decided too.

Then I checked NewEgg and realised hey, same price for 1080Ti and 2080.

So I'm going to get an eVGA 2080

That's a great price. Mine is an FTW3 with 3 fans. It's really quiet in my Fractal Design Define R6 which is already a silent focus case. My GPU fan speed is usually around 40% and temps maxes out at 72°C.
