cost depends... anyway go for a surgeon that does NOT take the reconstructed part from your hamstring. the hamstring stabilizes the knee so you don't want to weaken that. AFter that come see me:) Ill get you up and running in no time. The most critical days are those immeidately after surgery. You need immeidate nutrition and anti swelling intervention to maximize healing speed.

Since we're on this topic, like to tag along and ask a related question.

My right knee injury (due to NS) has resurfaced yesterday, after being dormant for some 2-3 years.
(Monday did squat, Wednesday did deadlift, only Thursday morning felt the pain)

The pain is felt during walking, when I move the rear leg from behind to the front, especially if I point my toes downwards when the leg is move from rear to front.

Got hope or not?
Can rehab without going thru the knife?

KEtua the only injuries that have no chance of rehab without surgery are ACL and SLAP tears. I am rehabbing a SLAP tear client at the moment and it is going well. but he still needed surgery when he got the injury.

WIthout MRI its hard to tell what you have, altho if the joint is stable, then its a scar tissue problem or tension related - those certainly don't need surgery.

I thought without ops your knee will get weaker and weaker.

Actually I hope to go for ops because I still want to play sports. My knee already gaveway many times, and I wondering am I going to let my knee like that for the rest of my life?

It would never be as good as before. But with proper rehab and post rehab training, you can surpass "normal" performance.

Hi TS, firstly how old are you and are u the active type? These are some of the factors you can consider before u decide whether to go for ACL reconstruction :)

To start with, have u had an MRI scan already? The MRI scan will determine the extent of your tear. I had my ACL surgery only about 1 year ago and maybe I can share my experience with you

For my case, the cost of the whole operation is about 9k+, which was fully paid for by my insurance. It depends on individuals, but for me to claim for insurance, I have to stay overnight and was discharged the next day.

Make no mistakes, the 1st few days u will feel super pek chek...the area around the knee swell like dunno wat and u have to move around on crutches and doing your daily chores are super troublesome. Like bathing, moving around, etc...most of the time I was on my bed doing some light rehab on my own, by stretching my leg, tryin to bend it slowly, etc..

Physio starts 1 week after my operation...I went for 2 x sessions per week for about 2 mths...after tat I did not go anymore...instead I do the rehab myself after that.

Very fast it's been 1 yr since my surgery, to be honest I did not regret going for it at all. Although I can feel the knee is never like before, at least I do not have to go thru the feeling when your knee give way

TS, once u suffer this injury, there's no way your knee will be as before...at best I'd say maybe 95% or even lower...about 90%. Like you, I do not want to go through the feeling of knee giving way again and I want to continue playin sports also..

Sorry for the wall of text! :o

If you would like a quotation and more information on ACL reconstruction, you can try Singapore Sports & Orthopaedic Clinic, Dr Kevin Yip is quite an established senior orthopaedic surgeon, or look for Kelvin at 64712694 (24 hrs)

There are docs who can do good ACL reconstructs. But there are none that I know of that can rehab it as fast as I would like to see in a client.

I kena.

Got few options..

Go for op.

Let it heal itself Plus rehab

Strengthened your muscles and it will hold your knee..

There's no100% back to normal.

ACL will not heal by itself due to poor blood flow in the region. If you are young, best is to get a op done so that when you are older you won't have any problems.
Scenarios can be more complicated like mine when I tore my acl along with my meniscus and MCL.

I'm 6mths post op and I must say the road will only get easier if you are disciplined. I've started running and sprinting whilr in yhe gym I can hit my squats with good depth but still some alignment issues to work on.

For those who are normally athletic alr, rehab will be much easier. I managed to get my straight leg lift within 4 days.

But to those affected, remember that you are progressing at your own pace and don't rush anything.

Reply here if you need any advise:)

Hi rev, got a question. I'm 10 days post surgery. I still have trouble straightening my leg to 0 degrees. was this a problem for you?

Also, how long post surgery could you walk normally?

Its normal to have trouble straightening your leg and you shouldn't feel down about it. Your physio should have prescribed certain exercises that will help you get your knee in this few weeks. Ask your physio if it is appropriate to do leg hangs off an edge. But warning first ah,it will hurt.

I was on crutches for 6 weeks due to meniscus repair and walking normally 2 weeks later once I was off my crutches.

On your next visit to the physio, you could ask abt your progress and how it charts against the protocol timeline.

Just curious, you did a hamstring graft?

I also did my ACL re-construction in 2012, remember to do your physio faithfully and you will be fine in no time. :s41:

Of course, the quads / muscles shrunk alot. have to slowly rebuild them.
