I'm wish to become a medic. I am physically fitter than many others, but eye sight no good at least 500+ per side and red green deficiency. Commando is out...If those garang units cannot go, might as well be a medic. Can learn useful skills. Resuscitation skills, responding to people with asthma etc.

I am thinking of expressing my interest to become a medic during BMT, hope there is a way for me to do so.

Think now can express interest in the vocation already right? https://www.cmpb.gov.sg/cmpb/ns-vocations/#explore-ns-vocations

Anyway if you red green deficiency, does that mean you will have an issue identifying blood?

Not sure about SAF medic but courses like medical, nursing, paramedic do not take in colorblind applicant.

I have an ex-colleague who is a Commando Section Leader & he have colorblind. Surprising, he also got a Polytechnic Diploma in Mechanical Engineering which he claim during his era, that is the only engineering course that accept applicants with colorblind.

I don't think that color blindness is that much of a factor nowadays, I have friends in SPF, who are color blind, but still become Frontline officers.

Regards to SPF, they will actually make you do a pre shoot, to make sure that your color blindness will not affect you while shooting. So if you pass that, you can be posted to Frontline policing.

Not sure how SAF handles this though.....

Colour blind can go OCS.

But most likely infantry.

Which isn't much different from the rest as infantry get the bulk of the officers.

SPF and SCDF cannot have colour blind personnel.

Official policy. Which makes sense because they may have to testify in court.

Navy and Air Force also don't accept colour blind personnel.

I'm also a colour blind person and I serve as a medic during my time in the NS.

Besides infantry, medics and storeman, I don't know of other vocations which accepts colour blind people.

you are the one serving army, not your family.

If you want to try for OCS, do it because you wanted to be there, not because your parents wanted you to bbe there

Commandos cannot be colourblind.

Same as Armour, Transport and MP.

He have a Poly Dip (Mech) too & he claim that that is the only engineering course that accept colorblind student during his time.

I believe he is colorblind because he relied on us to tell him the color of wires before connection for project in workplace.

By the way, I am 2G SAF & he is older then me...
