in my opinion, try not to use mink oil..

i was once a mink oil supporter also. until i read that mink oil actually soften the leather because of the fatty acid in the mink oil, and that makes it less lasting and prone to rot. mink oil "waterproofs" the leather by blocking the pores also. which is not ideal as it should be left open to be breatheable. afterall, the tannery spent hours and processes to get rid of the oil and its hard to understand why we are putting it back.

now i use obenauf's LP which has better reviews everywhere and people swear by it. i just started switching to LP so i cant tell the immediate difference.

just my 2cents
Now that u have mention abt LP, i recalled someone told me it is better.
But i bought mink oil le :(

it only darkens the colour

some people in this thread do use mink oil, down to individual preference...

Will Use mink oil on my leather stuff to soften and darken them, usually follow up with obenauf LP. Only did mink my black doc martens to soften and condition as I have not taken care of them for years Haha. for my red wings will use only obenauf LP as the leather is different and already soft enough :)

where to get red wings at the best price?

I got mine from Amazon.com. Pretty decent price below $399SGD with shipping fees included for a Iron Ranger 6" Size-D Orc Russet. I recieved it after 10 to 14days using my Debit card.

You can do some calculation though. A average Red Wing shoe at local store is about $398 to $498 range while now US currency is damn weak! It's a steal!

Cheers!
