Thats how the color of my red wings look like now.

After reading from other boards I think mines the 'oro-iginal' rather than oro-legacy (which is more orange-ish)?

Anyway, back to the main issue, I keep oiling my boots with obernauf, but it keeps going back to this dull shade of brown. Should I oil it more often? Any suggestions? :(

EDIT: omg. feeling very cheated right now. I realised the time i bought my new pair of RW was oro-legacy. Then when it's stitching broke, they gave me a oro-iginal rather than an oro-legacy.

Chill man.. Let the leather do its thing. From the sole of your boots, I presume it quite new? You mention you oil quite often, probably do more harm then good. My 8140 from a pck boots turned to a darkish brown color. Upload pictures when I got time.

I didn't oil it very often. Haha I was asking I should since I initially thought (at the time of post) that it had faded and needed oiling to keep up it's color. But now I realised that it's because the leather from the start was different!

The thing is, I really liked the orange look of 875 that's why I bought it. So hopefully I settle this ASAP.

FYI: for those who do not know, oro-iginal leather ceased production in mid 2012 (roughly cant rmb exactly when) and oro-legacy is the new leather they use. It's basically different in their color (original is more brown, oro legacy is less brown and more orange look) due to the things the do at the tannery. So, all 877 and 875 use the new oro-legacy. So be careful when you buy red wings. Check if it's the correct leather type you want.

I've also experience the issue. I bought my 1st red wing which was the 875. After a few wears I decided to oil them. That's when I realize the stitching came loose in my left boot. I though it was normal, so I decided to wear it the next day. After a day of wearing I checked it just to find the thread has disappear slightly. Reading your post I decided to bring the shoe back to the Suntec outlet. The staff said it was a cosmetic defect. And cosmetic damage are fine.

My question now what if in the future the stitching gives way. Its it my fault for my wears or because it was already damage. What should I do?

Any pic of the stitching?

Warranty is just 12 mth, email red wing with pic to see if u claim warranty
Warranty Information

If the stitching comes loose, its not a cosmetic defect. You should be given a new pair, but keep in mind it needs to be within the warranty period.

I did attach a picture of my stitching coming loose on this forum. You might have to flip through many pages to find it again. ><

As for warranty, the warranty of my 875 is only 6 mths when I bought it. I don't recall them telling me it was 12 mths.

And through my email with them, they said that within the warranty period, you are only eligible to 1 exchange. Yeah. I'll just let that sink it for a moment.

Well according to the staff, they said that the product transition to oro-legacy only started in later 2013 (so i was wrong that they changed in 2012), and suntec store did not have the inventory yet to change to the new oro-legacy. Hence, the batch we bought at late 2013, was still oro-iginal.

According the warranty info on redwing site it's 12 mth not 6 mth. Not come across any shoes that's 6mth, only apply to USA not international?

I bought last October for my engagement present. I got it from my fiancee only this early Jan. Wore like less than 5 times. I did email them but did not include the pic and they advice me to proceed to the outlet as the staff could examine. Thus that was what I got from both of them, friendly reply but I was too disappointed to argue further when they insisit with their reply which was it was a cosmetic defect.

With the Suntec outlet closing, I think i should email them with the pics. Will upload the pic of the 'cosmetic defect' soon here for you guys to see. Tang63 thanks for the help brudder. I really hope this can be solved soon.

It was because of your post then I knew i wasn't the only one and thought i could exchange it. I would email them to see what's the response. Will upload the damage soon

From my experience, emailing them for your issue is pointless because they will still ask u to head down to the shop anyway. I know because i did the same thing like you, took a photo and then emailed them.

Anyway, ultimately it's the shop that has got to do the exchange for you.

Hope your problem will be solved soon!
