I have already broken down your posts. Go and read above.

And I read through already. You see the post I said there are other mink oil brands? Look I did not further elaborate on the other brand cause that is not the point. The point I'm trying to say is yes silicone does affect but not as exaggerating as the net put it accross. Then you got over defensive regarding it and pushing to me saying i somehow support silicones. Mainly the point is beeswax or silicone as long it does offer strong water resistance, stronger it is the less "breathability" your boots will be. One does not need go through the trouble to get LP or anything else if they have red wing mink oil or if they intending to get. Understand ? Hope you do.

When did I say you support silicone? You were AGAINST silicone. Go and read your post that I quoted.

You said dont use mink oil with silicone. Which is exactly what I said. But you say that I misdirect people. Understand now? Or need me quote for you again?

I'm not AGAINST. I'm saying it's alright to use.

But I don't use cause of its properties which works same as LP. Which of you are trying to get water repellency from mink oil but afraid of silicone, lp works the same way because silicone is not harmful to begin with if you are looking at water repellency properties from LP

Why not as long it does not contain petroleum and silicones. I would very much recommend the all natural leather conditioner/boot oil and not their mink oil since their mink oil contain silicones or petroleum iirc. MANY upmarket reputable conditioners contain mink oil like saphir renovateur for example.

So why you recommend people not to use mink oil from Red Wing ?

If their option is from LP changing to mink oil . Means ? They don't need that water repellency that is offered from Rw. They want breathability which means no silicone, petroleum or even beeswax. Their all leather conditioner is similar to their boot oil but with abit of beeswax compared to lp.

No. This is the context to which you replied.

Hi guys, the guys @ denim store recommended me mink oil to clean Iron Ranger Amber 8111. However, after searching online for ways to clean IR boots, I found out that the usage of mink oil is actually debatable.

Should I go ahead and clean the boots with mink oil?

The poster said use of RW Mink Oil is debatable. You said go ahead if it is mink oil that does not contain silicone. And you recommend not to use Red Wing Mink Oil because it contains silicone. That means you too, find Mink Oil from RW debatable. Which is what I am thinking. Thus I recommend not to use RW Mink Oil and instead, go for Obenauf Boot Oil.

PS: Anyway its good to know we both agree on boot oil (Obenauf/RW) rather than mink/LP.

TL;DR

Go for Obenauf Boot Oil/Red Wing Boot Oil/Red Wing Leather Conditioner instead of Obenauf LP/Red Wing Mink Oil.

Debatable? Because of the breathing capability and spreading rumors at that time regarding mink oil going rancid which is why LP is so heavily recommended at one point. Even I fell for it and regret after using it once.

Which is why my recommendation will not be rw mink oil unless he wants water repellency. Which I still firmly believe many of us will never expose our beloved boots to such condition which will require LP.

Maybe there is some misunderstanding between our conversation. Good that we clear it.

Just bought a pair of leather boots. First time got a $400+ leather boots for myself.

Ask you all, what should I do to make my boots lasts longer?

Do I have to use mink oil?
Or just apply conditioner?

There are many cleaning products such as tarrago gel cream .
Or just get the red wing boots products to ease your mind

Wah went nuts last week and bought 2 pairs of boots. I couldn't be bothered to wait for online shipping so I figured just go buy from Orchard Gateway. Bought 8138 and 8166. Kind of an impulse buy but I'm loving it. :D

Hi guys, I've just received my Red wing 1907. Not too sure if this stain is causes by the black shoe lace that comes with it or something else, but anyone has any similar issue or solution that able to remedy this? Is somewhat a black line across the front of the boot, try cleaning with cloth and warm water doesn't work.

They are all size D. Pricing wise for orchard gateway and Left foot are the same.

It's best to go Orchard Gateway as they have all the Red Wing Models.
