Notice the asterisk? Market dependent, I think our local set likely don't have.

Just received today. Yup. Confirm pruss chop. No NFC.well. at least better experience than laggy Samsung A30s. Only downside no NFC. Phone seems very speedy.

Xiaomi Redmi 9 could launch under the POCO brand in some markets

OCO has evolved into an independent brand in markets like India, but it continues to share resources with Xiaomi across several key sectors like Product R&D. This is the reason why devices launched after POCO’s rebirth have been rebranded Xiaomi/Redmi devices. For instance, the POCO X2 (phoenixin) launched in India is a rebranded Redmi K30 4G (phoenix). Similarly, the POCO F2 Pro (lmi) launched internationally is a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro 5G (lmi). The story is set to continue forward, as information at hand suggests that the Xiaomi Redmi 9 could launch under the POCO brand in some markets.

A TUV Rheinland certification filing suggests that a new POCO device is coming with the model number M2004J19PI.

If the Redmi 9 does come to India as a POCO-branded smartphone, it will likely be released alongside the POCO M2 Pro, which is known to have a model numbering M2003J6CI. We already know that a new POCO phone is launching in India in July, so we speculate that there is a possibility that Xiaomi lets POCO launch the Redmi 9 as the POCO M2.

Got NFC.

Listed price for 4GB/64GB is S$218. Real price may be lower.

Xiaomi's latest entry-level Android 10 smartphone also comes with a 6.53-inch Full HD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels resolution) display with 400-nits brightness, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio, making it an all-rounder phone for web and social media browsing and online video watching. Within lies a MediaTek Helio G80 SoC, which Xiaomi found that it offered 207% improved performance over its predecessor.

Other features include a fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, an IR blaster, NFC compatibility, and dedicated slots for dual nano-SIM cards and a microSD card (expandable up to 512GB).

somehow this series like not so hot. the note seems to generating way more hype.

Probably because it is newer and a bit lower end than Redmi Note 9 (mainly camera and to a lesser extent CPU). If the hardwarezone news article is correct, then at least Redmi 9 has an advantage on NFC (and FM radio not mentioned in the article).

In the end it depends on the selling price.

And the thread on the Redmi Note 9 also includes Redmi Note 9S and Note 9 Pro, which are much better phones with better specifications.

IMDA equipment certification shows Redmi 9 (M2004J19G) doesn't have NFC. Only 2 Redmi models with NFC are Note 8 Pro and Note 9 Pro. HWZ quoted specs over the global website spec sheet hence the mention of NFC.

Ah then the HWZ article needs to be corrected. The global website says the availability of NFC depends on the market.

Looking to help my mum buy a budget phone..

Mainly just for WhatsApp, YouTube and some light gaming (Eg: candy crash like kind of games)

Checked xiaomi online.. Considering Redmi 9 @ $199 or redmi note 9 @ $229.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

Both the Redmi 9 and Note 9 are very similar, but maybe you want to get the Note 9 for the larger storage option at 64GB (compared to 32GB on Redmi 9).

It's always better to get a larger storage.
