While eagerly/anxiously/angrily waiting for my Gigabyte z170x gaming 7 mobo to be delivered by Aramex, just want to share some info for those who are considering whether to buy fr SLS/Qoo10/Lazada or Amazon.
Amazon price vs prices listed by one shop fr SLS:
k0nb5c.png

* I am not sure why but no import tax collected for i7 6700k and gtx1080. By right they are above 400SGD and customs should collect import tax?
** assuming i can use two accounts to apply two 120off 1000spending coupon from Qoo10
*** assuming prices quoted by shops in SLS are 150 higher than qoo10. i am not sure abt this, just a rough estimate. but you can do ur research if you need to know the exact amt.
**** I bought some of the items at promotion prices, would cost 100-150 more otherwise.

Pros and cons far as i am concerned:

Pros:
*lower price (300+ in my case), and that's abt it...

Cons:
*Free shipping handled by Aramex is super slow, close to a month by now. Waiting for these parcels make me so upset...
**No local warranty, must send back to amazon or manufacturer. God helps me if i get a DOA...

I did most of these purchases in a rush without much research, give me more time to think about it or a second chance, might consider to buy (some of them) fr local...

And I might want to get two gtx1070 instead of one gtx1080.. similar price but higher performance...regretting now...

Wish this help!

if over $400, they will send you a letter to pay for the tax.

Amazon has free returns so no worry about DOA.

EDIT: Also i think you need a transformer for the psu?

SGD or USD? CPU and GPU are indeed over 400SGD. i have received both but amazon agent told me the import fee deposit refund is being processed.

my concen is waiting for another month if DOA, which will make me crazy....and by then the 7700k and z270 mobo will be released

warranty is still a big disvantage

hmm usually is courier collect from you, not too sure in this case. But if they refund you that's great.

If DOA amazon will send a new one using priority shipping, or you can choose to refund it anyway and return it.

Anecdotal evidence suggests a decent PSU with good power delivery will also help with the longevity of a machine. The RM is a decent one.

If any, I'd really suggest taking your driver downloads offline via another PC and complete the installation offline to prevent unprecedented events from occurring with Windows 10's way of grabbing drivers. Start out with the chipset inf, it minimises windows update from making mistakes. After everything's ready then get online.

There was a period where Lenovo published a borked BIOS update via Windows 10 that installs on just about any skylake board with an AMI BIOS. Took M$ many months to pull off the update but do take precaution.

That aside, don't think so much bro. Enjoy your rig.

thanks for the info, much more comforting if they send replacement via priority shipping.

i think nowadays amazon collect the import fee when customers pay for the order, and if not collected then it will be refunded. too slow if courier collecr

i just get rams during amazon sale. $99usd for corsair dominator platinum 3200mhz.

graphic cards can get from qoo10 with discount coupons etc

dont see a need to get other stuff from amazon esp its just only $100 or $200 diff but have to deal with warranty etc. not worth it i guess.

havnt thought of the driver matters. i plan to use the windows 10 fr my current Y580 laptop, not sure it is smart enough to change drivers accordingly. but yeah i should download the drivers in advance and install them offline.

thanks bro!

good for u. 99usd for 3200mhz dominator is much better deal than my 80usd 3000mhz lpx vegeance.

yeah i agree gpu can get fr q0010...the part i regret tbe most.

price difference for others could amt to a few hundreds in total, i think depends on how to weigh between convenience and budget

I hoot only 2 parts from amazon for my build, the ram, cause it was only $57usd, and the h100i cause still cheaper than sls, end up saving quite a lot. The rest bought locally cause warranty is a pain.

But now I think about it, should have gotten fury x from amazon instead of 1070 since now its only ~300 usd...

The part on delayed shipment imo is new. When iparcel or UPS was the primary logistics partner until 2016, back then it was consistently 2-3 weeks (which is expected behavior for free shipment). The only gripe was probably that if you missed deliveries from UPS you had to go to the nearby Eu Yan Sang to collect item.

In 2016 it began to lean more towards Aramex than iparcel and IMHO, iparcel is quite consistent ever since the UPS buyout. Past few iparcel shipments all came within 10 days but its a pity more stuffs are shipped via Aramex but I think this a by product of buyers making unnecessary complaints about iparcel in the past. End result of kpkbing when not necessary, they got screwed with something "worse" than iparcel from Amazon taking the wrong feedback.

the time aramex takes to deliver is still within 2-3 weeks just that they always miss the estimated delivery date..sometimes by a week

Don't regret...you probably made the right choice. SLI support is not quite there these days...end up maybe half the time you only make use of one GTX 1070 with the other one just being there for aesthetic purposes...might as well get the GTX 1080 with the guaranteed performance increase in 100% of the games rather than 2 GTX 1070 with non-guaranteed performance increase and certainly not in 100% of the games.

You already know all these issues while deciding to purchase. And you made the order. So now regret about the waiting, tax and RMA issues?

Buy local has its own problems too. Some retailers don't help with RMA even within 7 days, taichi u direct to distributor. Higher price is confirmed considering the price gouging in SG.

Both got good and bad. Up to individual to decide what's best for them.
