Reformat Portable Hard Disk

Hi all,

I got an old portable hard disk (Western Digital My Passport) that I used for to record Starhub Cable TV shows. But I have since terminated Starhub TV and would like to use this portable hard disk for other storage. However, when I pluck the hard disk into my desktop, it did not show up as a drive, instead it is a network. And hence I am not able to find the option to format it.

Can anyone advise how can I get to format my portable hard disk? Thanks

Download the software from the HDD manufacturer, e.g. WD drive utilities, then erase the whole HDD.

Go to cmd and use diskpart:

Try use EaseUS Partition Master (Home edition cause it is free to use at home), can fix a lot of problems.
I used it to partition, format, clone my hard disks.

Any clicking noise? If there is clicking noise, the HDD is dead.
If you need the data you have to send for data recovery.

You need some utility like Acronic disk director, etc to re initialize the disk.

what is the % of recovery?..hopefully can salvage the data..

Condition varies, depending on what the problem with the drive. If there is no head crash on disk, high chance 100%.
