Recently, was hospitalized for a week and bill came up to about 50k after surgery and everything.. Used a few credit card to pay and claimed hospitalization insurance.. Insurance have yet to be approved due to them requiring additional reports and stuff from the doctor/hospital

However, my CC bills are due.. As I've selected refund to CC.. Able to call up the CC company and get them to grant approval to withhold payment for the hospital bill amount?

If i make payment and the insurance credited it back to CC, then there will be lots of credit in the CC

Anybody have any experience with this or advise?

Greatly appreciated

Can you check with insurance company how long it will take to process the claims. And also whether you can change the option from refunding back into cc to cheque?
Do u have sufficient cash to pay cc bill?

I was discharged more than a month ago and got the hospital to perform e-filing for me. But a week ago, when i called up the insurance company to check the status, they inform me no claims have been received.

Called hospital and they informed me they have not submitted the claim yet (which is bad) as it usually take about 4 weeks to process the claims. I got them to submit the next day and called up insurance to expedite it.

Yesterday, received a call from my agent saying they require more reports as the initial submission was too brief. This means the claim is gonna be delayed further.

I did the check yesterday and response was they will refund to the mode of payment, which means they will refund to the card.

I will not be able to fully pay-off the amount as its too huge. Don't have so much cash on hand.

If you cancel the card, you still have to pay the bill, and worse yet, it is uncertain if the refund can be made to a blocked/cancel card.

Cancel / block the cards?

See what they do?

Which hospital is this? Are they able to change the mode of refund to cheque instead? You could use their late submission as leverage.

If you can't pay the full amount in cash, then no choice need to cancel the card if bill is not yet charge to credit cards.

Hospital will call u for payment. Talk to them nicely that your insurance is handling the payment.

Withdrawing the credit balance is not an issue. I think his real problem is how to settle the 50k bill before the reimbursement from insurance company.

1. Negotiate with hospital. Explain to them the situation and see if they allow financing period, or maybe they can reverse the credit card charges and make do with Letter of Guarantee from insurer.

2. Obtain cheap short term loan. The interest would be less than 6%. Consider credit card balance transfer(on promotional rate) or loan from your insurer, using your life policy as collateral.

3. Fallback on your social network. Seek for loan from family/relatives/friends.

Shouldn't LOG being used before admitted? I am just wondering.

Maybe TS don't mind sharing what kind of surgery and which insurance coverage?

When my wife underwent 2 surgeries in the past few years, she doesn't need to make any deposit or settlement at all.

I am assuming it's private hospital.

Usually claims will come back as cheques even if you pay by CC. Your only problem is cash to pay CC.

If not enough cash, you got to take a personal loan or borrow from relatives.

This problem will not arise from private hospital as it's cashless if you have an integrated shield plan. They don't charge any upfront payment

Not really true. I've recently been to Gleneagles and they require upfront payment and will refund by cheque after the claim is approved.
