Hi all,

Any recommendation for places to look for refurbished laptop, any trustable shops or online sellers in qoo10/lazada etc? And any durable brand as well coz I dun use/owned any.

Helping a relative(student) in m'sia, family not too well-off and claimed it is quite expensive to buy in m'sia, so intend to buy one as a gift for them.

Was thinking since using in m'sia, so no point having warranty thus looking at refurbished ones.

Thanks in advance.

Hello! Any specifications in mind?

Refurbished ones are quite old themselves - some being approx 3 - 4 years of age. Am not too sure about the refurbishment process so I can't really comment on it, but suffice to say they would be given a once over and normally given a brand new HDD. Being refurbished, exterior conditions may also have slight dings & scratches.

No recommendations on vendor or place to get them from as I have not purchased one unfortunately, but am always tempted to get one haha.

But one series that I have a good impression of are HP Elitebooks - HP's business range of laptops - which are imo built pretty well (metal chassis), easily up-gradable (hatch type base), reliable and hassle free.

The other I can think of are Lenovo Thinkpads and Dells

P.s. Being pretty old, do check / enquire with the seller on the battery condition of the laptops (how many hours it can last on a single charge)

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for sharing.

Specs wise, nothing in specific but i think i know what to look out for, for a student usage. More of a trustworthy source.

Agreed on the hp eliteBook, read some online comments and it seems pretty decent for durability.

Check out PCDreams' factory refreshed models.

Good deals on some models with original warranty. Pretty good rep too.

Somehow, I don't believe it is more expensive in Malaysia? Maybe you can try compare the prices of a new one in JB and see which one cheaper. Probably better to buy in Malaysia for them as the language, specs, warranty etc. will be more relevant to them.

What's your budget? My recommendation would be to buy a new laptop. Second electronics tend not to be very reliable. There is a Lenovo budget 14" laptop going for only $499. Otherwise Acer sells their 11.6 inch Celeron-powered laptops at $499. I think if you're prepared to pay $500, you can get something decent - 11.6 to 14 inches, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Win 10, DVD-RW drive. Take a walk around SLS or Funan, there are pretty good deals to be had.

Most concern for refurbished unit is the battery.
If the battery condition is ok or you can get a cheap replacement. It should be no problem.

Agreed PC Dream is a good place to look for. They are well know in providing good advice to customer.
