Recommendations for any websites where I can get a refurbished laptop?
Preferably an official refurbished outlet by the brand itself.
For example, an official HP refurbished outlet that has warranties and all. Thankss :)

You can try PC DREAMS. I think they have "factory refreshed" and refurbished laptop for different brands.

I bought my refurbished HP Spectre from ebay USA. Paid like $1200 with shipping 2-3 years back. Warranty was of course for USA, my gamble paid off. Laptop still working today.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was looking around yesterday and I found Dell's official refurbished SG website? Anyone knows anything about it? Looks really promising. Might give it a shot.

Mac or Win?...

Refurbished mac with 1 year apple warranties:
https://www.apple.com/sg/shop/refurbished/mac

Definitely windows, don't have the Apple ecosystem and will probably never get it. Hahaha.
I checked out the website the dell refurbished website and spoke to their sales consultant on chat and I think I may just buy a laptop from there. They have like 1 year warranty that includes on site technician, hardware replacements and 24/7 phone support and delivery all included with the price so that's not bad at all.

A brand new near FULLY decked out Ryzen 7, 16gb ram,512 ssd Thinkpad A485 is only under 1.4k, with 3 years on site warranty, since there's the PCDEAL discount on lenovo website.

I don't really see the appeal in getting refurbished units, especially since the reputed sellers that offer warranty also charge slightly higher.

Given the various Intel cpu vulnerabilities in the past 2 years, it makes more sense to get a new laptop now as older ones may not get BIOS updates.
Older Business series may still get it but it's quite unlikely for older consumer series.
And even if BIOS updates are released, they tend to take some time as updates for newer laptops take priority.

Yeah was a little worried about the type of refurbished units the official Dell refurbished website were selling as there are many out there that sell those really old ones for a really cheap price. So, I managed to speak to one of the sales consultant that they have, asked them on the age of the xps I wanted and the and reason as to why it was sent back. It had some issues with the keyboard that was now fixed which was assured by him and the age was not older than 9 months.

So I took the gamble and got it, brand new would have been 30% to 40% more. I should get it in the next 8 days so will update here when I do :)

That is relatively new, and not an issue in terms of manufacturer support. I was actually referring to buying laptops that are 3 years or older from resellers that refurnish old laptops..

So the xps arrived today and I still can't believe that it's a refurbished unit. It's pretty much brand new. All I had to do was perform a windows update as it must have been in the box for a month or two. After the update, I was good to go. I just found out that I can't post any pictures as I'm still a new member. But man I wish I could :(

anyone bought a refurb XPS from dell outlet US store before. I noticed the pricing at dell US is so much cheaper than in SG. Considering buying if the total cost of including shipping and int warranty is cheaper in SG. Anyway does anyone know about the int warranty for US laptop in SG?

I guess that makes sense. I suppose some of them have international warranties but at the same time, too many things to worry about I suppose, damaged box, lost box, warranty not applicable. Based on the prices that I saw on their SG website. I rather pay a little more for a complete peace of mind :)

ehh.. I think they meant int warranty, which means SG also have to honor the warranty too.. No?

I've been quite curious about this so I've been trying to find some information about this online. This has popped up a couple of times but I can't seem to find the source for this

"Customers with Alienware, Inspiron and XPS systems shipping from March 13, 2017, with Basic Warranty, will no longer have International Warranty Service when traveling or relocating outside the original country of purchase"

Saw this one of the hardware Zone posts too.

Can find some posts where dell also rejects warranties and takes forever to accept warranty transfers. This is the best I found so far.
Please do chip in if you find anything else :)

Other than Dell, does HP, Lenovo and Asus offically offer refurbished sets in Singapore? Don't really feel comfortable ordering outside US, if they even shipped here

There are different tiers of Dell Support end user PCs.

Consumer:
Basic/Limited Hardware Warranty
Onsite Service after Remote Diagnosis
Premium Support after Remote Diagnosis
Premium Support
Premium Support Plus

Commercial:
Limited Hardware Warranty
Onsite Service after Remote Diagnosis
ProSupport after Remote Diagnosis
ProSupport
ProSupport Plus

I only have experience with ProSupport on my Latitude 7480. It's been pretty painless. Always gotten local/Malaysian CSO. Start with saying I need XYZ part due to EFG symptom/failure, and troubleshooting steps ABC is already done and diagnosis says QRS. No "have you tried turning it off and on again" or "updating drivers" bullsh*t

The general consensus is that anything with "Remote Diagnosis" or lower will end up with techs running you in endless hoops before agreeing to replace the faulty part.

For international coverage, that statement applies to the lowest level of warranty. You should call Dell to confirm if Premium Support devices are still eligible for international coverage.

Thanks. I guess it can't be help. Maybe the other companies don't have the vol of Dell and Apple to offer refurb units on a regular basis
