Regarding RAID 1

Hi guys,

i have an external drive box running in RAID 1. is it advisable to do defrag on the RAID? i read somewhere that states its okay and some not okay.

recently, i found some of my documents are somewhat corrupted, for eg. photos with the pink/green/red line at the edge of the photos... any idea as to what is going on? could it be a RAID failing?

is there any way to find out if the array is healthy or failing? i do not mean the drive is failing as i am using a 3rd party program to monitor the health of the drive in the background.

1. you still can defrag only if you are using harddisks. if you are using SSD, then dont deftag

2. whats the status of RAID array?
did you try to use another monitor to see if its the issue with your monitor? i strongly doubt is the issue with the RAID array as the RAID controller will check the consistency between 2 drives

3. how do you RAID the drives? do you have a RAID controller or using software RAID?

reduce lifespan of SSD as you will incur lots of writes when reallocating data...

then i believe the RAID should be fine

did you try to break off the raid and try to access the files from either drives and see if theres this issue?

you trying to say i take one of the drive out and access directly to the drive? i have not tried that. i will give that a try. but that still does not explain how come some of my files are getting corrupted.

yes by right it shouldnt even corrupt... any warranty for the NAS? if have, maybe can raise a support ticket and check? i believe might be related to how the RAID controller writes data into the disks

i believe the warranty for the RAID box has alr expired.. lol.. it isnt a NAS. by right, should taking out one drive be able to access?

yes, RAID 1 is 1 to 1 drive redundancy

actually could be some parts of your hdd might be failing, by running HDTune to find out the error. dun use quick scan.

just an update. i ran the hd tune and with full scan. no errors/damaged detected. i have yet to try the single drive operation. but now that it is corrupted partially. i suppose trying with one drive does not help much right?

however, i might want to try to redo my raid config again.
