Hi guys thanks for your answers regarding transport from
airport to TMS. Now regarding Taiwan mrt cause I booked a hotel, Chaiin Hotel which is near all 3 mrt. And quite noob about Taiwan. Do we use mrt to commute mostly ? As well, what's the cost of MRT or is there a concession card to purchase ? And if you guys can recommend any fun places to go in Taipei or Taiwan in general would be lovely ! Cause heading for a 6 day trip and doing research now !

you can buy Easycard from 7-eleven. basically you pay for a deposit + value of the card. Use it like our Ezlink card. Many places are easily reached by MRT. I am most impressed that their train are always on time or ahead of time, and you never have to wait long for the next arrival.

You can also use it for public bus ride. For e.g. you need to go to Yangmingshan, you can take MRT to Jiantan and take a bus up to YMS. All will be paid for by Easycard.

u gotta travel out of taipei city to get there. need to take the rail to reach, which might take u abt 2hrs

u can plan 1 day to travel out.. like go shifen, then jiufen(and houtong cat village if u like cats), then keelung(for the night market).. then back to taipei at night

its outside taipei city
Have to take 台铁, not 捷运
Taiwan rail, not mrt

Take rail train to ruifang then change to the shifen line

I lit sky lantern at jingtong during my last trip to Taipei. Very deserted. That time only me and my friend were the ones doing it. We took our own sweet time writing, the stall owner oso never come and disturb us. Just dropped by once to check on us if we had any problem, and kept telling us to "慢慢来".

And because Jingtong is the last stop of the pingxi line, we were able to lit the sky lantern on the unused part of the rail tracks regardless of train timing.

But jingtong itself very little things to browse around the train station. We didn't dare to venture too far as we didn't want to miss the next train. The backdrop and surroundings are very interesting for photography though.

Releasing sky lantern at shifen is also pretty relax and fun. The store will not hurry you. Only thing is train coming, but the train schedule is around 40 to 1 hr apart, so no issues most of the time. And the joy is also to release with others. You see many sky lanterns floating into the sky. This is a beautiful sight.

There are already people collecting them for recycling. The govt is paying these people for the efforts.

First time going to Taiwan!
Finally!

I bought the EasyCard from Klook and will collect it at the airport on arrival.
May I know where to top up?

Also when changing lines eg from from purple to green line, must I tap out of the purple line, then tap into the green line?

How much should I top up my Easycard for 3 days?
Taking the train to and fro the airport to town.

Thanks in advance!

Easycard can be topup at all convenience store. but it may be a hassle to look for one at airport. i suggest you buy taoyuan airport MRT ticket from klook since you will be collecting from them anyway.

airport purple to green need to tap out taoyuan airport MRT & tap in into taipei MRT. once you arrived at taipei main station, it will be alot easier to find convenience store to topup your Easycard

No hurry to topup too much since convenience stores are really common around taipei. you can also topup at MRT station counter (if available & during their operating hours)

p.s have fun walking! :)

If you just travel within Taipei, you don't need to top up a lot. I think 1st top up 300 ntd should be enough. Every mrt entrance, there is a counter , you can top up there. Don't top up too much, you can refund but the card can no longer be use for your next trip.

Easy card can use for airport mrt, mrt, bus and tra train. Can also use for payment in 7-11 and family mart.

Airport mrt is different line/system, you need to tap in and tap out. Mrt and bus work the same as in sg.
