Hi Everyone!
My friends and I have started this petition to Media Development Authority to reintroduce dialects in Singapore.

We would really like your support for this petition. We currently have over 800 signatures and just need 160 plus more or so to attain our target of 1000 signatures!

You can sign our petition here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/312/...uction-of-dialects-on-local-tvradio-programs/

We are pushing for the lifting of the ban on dialects on local television and radio programs because the belief that the learning of dialects interferes with the mastery of Mandarin and English is no longer valid.

Huge amount of linguistic research has shown that it is possible for young children to be multilingual.

Disallowing dialects on local radio and television programs also marginalize the elderly from being in touch with current affairs, having access to entertainment and even communicating with their own grand children.

Thank you everyone!

Then we get to learn new languages.

Some things are not exactly like currency, the more the better you know? Certain language in poor countries are not desired to be learned unlike french or japanese unless u are inspired to be a maid or u like to shoot fisherman.

Chill bro, guess you're against fts. They're humans like us, come here for a better life to support family.

If we migrate, isn't it good if locals are accepting & understanding?

Although i disagree with pap's policies..

What's the point? Many Children today don't even red Chinese character well or speak in meridian. So what is the point of taking dialects back?

If you ask me the priority. I would say Meridian first as everyone is going this way including people in Hong Kong and Main land China.

However, I agreed it should not be a rule/law to disallow dialects.

Hmm I am ok with allowing dialect on tv/radio, but do young peeps really want to learn dialect? As much as I would mourn the passing of a language, the thing is most kids do not and have no real way of learning dialect
