Relevance of processor generation Intel

Hi All!

I've found some deals on older 2070 max q laptops with i7 8750 chips for maybe 2.4kish on them so am wondering if the 8750 to 10750 gap very big..

Buying it mainly for games

Any ideas?

What is the price difference between 2? In games, I believe there is no difference. The new i7 10750 is also a 6 core chip, but comes with a ludicrous boost speed that it can never hit in a laptop. Under sustained load, both will perform pretty much the same, assuming both uses the same cooling solution.

Performance difference is not a lot unless you compare with
upcoming AMD Ryzen 8 core laptop.
AMD Ryzen 8 core laptop will leave Intel in the dust.

Take note of the heat generated by Intel H series laptop with RTX 2070.
Keyboard and under chassis area can get uncomfortable under load.
If you on budget than get older generation, I would recommend
AMD Ryzen 8 core laptop over Intel 10th gen laptops.

Same here. At this point of time, i would recommend the AMD 4800H instead. It will chew into any Intel hexa cores and even the 8 cores variant due to Intel being the hotter ones out there.

The budget you have 2.4k i suggest you look at AMD variants instead.

Did you really see wrongly or something? In terms of cpu benchmark intel is behind. Just because you see it is equipped with an rtx2060 and it does not perform as intel laptop that comes with an rtx2070 in the gaming benchmarks, And you deemed that it is “middle”? Lol

Anw. There are many videos out there already reviewed this g14 unit. And most of it came on top of what Intel has to offer.

I think you got it wrong way round now. Every single review out there is singing a different tune to what you mentioned.

I think the point is thermal throttling happens to all the mobile CPUs. It is inevitable given the limited space to cool the components, mainly the CPU and GPU. Renoir fares very well because it runs cooler and sustains a higher clockspeed than the ludicrous boost clock that Intel advertises. Clock for clock, Intel lags behind as AMD has the IPC advantage.

If you look at current Intel chips, they are based of 14nm which has been around for around 5 to 6 years now, and can't really compete with the 7nm chips from AMD at this point. Intel chips are only competitive because Intel's is throwing power efficiency out of the window to achieve the high clockspeed. This is evident if you look at existing Comet Lakes where unofficial reviews have mentioned that you need a high end water cooler to keep it below 90 degs with power consumption easily in excess of 250W to achieve a high all core turbo on its flagship. Even the 45W chips with the "up to 5.3Ghz" can't outrun the older Intel chips simply because the boost is just momentary and don't benefit in actual sustained load.

Another review to share to show how the 8 core AMD Renoir is beating Intel’s flagship 10nm Ice Lake U. While it’s a 8c/8t vs 4c/8t comparison, the fact is Intel have no response to AMD’s higher core count for their U series at this point.
