Hi there, what are his rates like? Also, does he teach only in the day or night also avail?

Thanks

I passed on my first attempt nearly a year ago. Totally agree with skatyboy. Mr Chow is a nice guy and a good instructor. He didn't scold me when I almost caused him to have an accident even though he was wheezing away. Instead he nagged a little then crack a joke to cheer me up. Think he charged $28 for off peak n $30 for peak. The only downside is his side mirrors have a switch that can be turned down. Helps you to pass easily but not good when you drive another car that doesn't have the function.

hi guys, need some advice here. im learning class 3 and have finished my 2nd lesson recently and is having difficulty in changing gears, controlling the accelerator(maintaining rpm at 2, most of the time hit 3) and the steering techniques(where the hand on the steering wheel should be when turning).

2nd lesson only don't worry, u will get use to the controls.

Important is to have consistent lessons(eg once or twice every week), consistent lessons will help you to improve.

Don't learn for a while then stop for a while, then continue, wont be helpful.

If you have problems controlling the accelerator you can try shifting your seat a little backwards, sometimes no need to be very accurate, usually i find if the steering wheels just touch your end of your wrist/palms will be ok.

For TP hold the steering wheel at 10am and 2pm location.
When negotiating mild bends on the road, hands at 10am and 2pm is ok.

If you are making a right turn or uturn, i think it is ok to deviate a bit from the 10am and 2 pm position, most important is that you use the correct turning method(Hand over hand/push and pull). Remember to guide your steering wheels back to straight, don't just let go.

Hey there, thanks! Yea, I finished 3 lessons so far, I think getting better, just accelerator problem. I mastered the hand over hand method already. Wish to ask if need to master both hand over hand and push and pull methods just one? I trying my best to have at least 1 lesson a week, so far I think ok. Anyway thanks for your outputs mate!

Hey, we are in the same boat. I started learning not too long. 3rd lesson now. and I read that a lot of the Japanese cars have this non linear throttle. I think it is suppose to give casual drivers a sense that the car has "more power". As a fellow who likes driving, I think its a stupid design and I absolutely hate it.

Congrats on ur improvement.

The more u drive the better u will get. Im still "learning" even after getting license.

For accelerator, maybe next lesson u can try to shift the position of the ball of your feet. If the ball of ur feet is placed too "low" on the pedal u can try shifting it up a little.

I find putting the ball of my foot near the middle of the gas pedal yields the best control(for me).

I will master both hand over hand and push pull for test.
Hand over hand is more for quicker and tighter turns(eg. Uturn/parallel parking/crank course) while push pull is more for normal right/left turn, s course, bends. Always remember to guide your steering wheel back, and execute turning at lower speed. This gives more reaction time and a more stable ride

Even on the roads now i still find hand over hand n push pull a good method, especially if trying to give a very smooth ride.

Hey there. glad to see im not the only one encountering this problem. Anyway, I did not read up about the car systems so cant comment on that. How's your lessons going so far? Your instructor good? By the way, did your instructor booked your TP or told you when is he going to book it? Weird or if i did not hear wrongly, my instructor says he's going to book AFTER 25 lessons. Going to confirm with him next lesson. Cheers and good luck for your driving!

My instructor said he will book it as soon as I pass my FTT which is about 2 weeks time. I know I made the mistake of going for the practical lessons too early, (Before I pass my FTT.) But this driving thing is completely new to me. None of my family members have any licence whatsoever so the process of getting one is full of trial and error for me at least.

I'm not financially well off either go I hope I can get this thing done as quickly and cheaply as possible. With the licence I can get a better paying job and can better support the family.

taking your practical lessons early is good, at least when you finish your FTT and your instructor feels you are almost ready for the TP you can go and book immediately. Waiting time is about 2 months.

yeah..in fact i think its good to take the practical earlier to familiarise yourself with it..coz driving takes time to master. anyway, good luck for your TP in the future!

Private Instructor

Hi ,

Anybody has a good private instructor in the East? Be it 3A or 3.. I wish to change instructor as the current one is not professional.

1st lesson - He is quite serious and I learnt a lot.

2nd lesson - He ate peanut while teaching me, went for toilet break and end early. Ended up I didn't learn much thing.

3rd lesson. He is late and ended early again. I am not even stable with the steering wheel and he actually demanded me to learn U-turns. He also increased his rate.

Eating peanuts and teaching is acceptable for me.. hahaha, at least he's still paying attention to your driving.
he usually end 5mins earlier, to book for next lessons and misc stuffs...
Seldom see him being late, he's always at the coffeeshop..
Not sure about other PDI, but I did learn u-turn on the 3rd lesson too. He can request him to slow down the pace..
About the rates, I am not sure about him increasing or not. Weekends and weekdays have different charges.

Professionalism in PDI is quite rare, they have been teaching the same thing repeatedly. They ought to be more relax. Compared to some bad reviews (PDI sleeping, buying TOTO during lesson time, late, etc). I find that he's rather OK.

Go ahead and look for more professional PDI, I am sure there are some...

If he is asking you to do U-turns means he thinks your already good with the steering lol. I also did U-turns and some dunno what reverse maneuver on my 3rd lesson. But I still find it quite weird I haven't been taught reversing or the slope thing yet. Normal or not? Only on my 4th lesson currently. My clutch control is quite okay liao and I wanna learn more things! Ended up just going to YouTube and looking at those reversing videos cause my leg damn itchy liao and wanna reverse the car. :s8:

slope is taught in the circuit, outside slope quite gentle, just have to maintain biting point and accelerate.
Reverse usually learn during parking
