Hi all,

Just got my 3A licence at SSDC!

Would like to recommend my PDI who made it possible - Mr Ang Thiong Hing.

Mr Ang is a conscientious teacher with a pleasant and friendly personality. He never made me feel nervous while I was driving. He would point out and explain my mistakes without scolding me, and if I repeated any mistakes, he would remind me without getting angry. He shared good driving and test tips and would answer all of my questions. He was patient and encouraging throughout, and that helped to build my confidence. He had a good gauge of my capabilities and planned my number of lessons accordingly. He was never late and would always send me a text the day before our lesson as a reminder.

His fees are comparable to that of several other SSDC PDIs I had looked up.

Meet-up point is near Admiralty MRT. He drives a Mazda 2.

You can contact Mr Ang at 9846 8084.

Best of luck!

Guys just wana share this,

I engaged my instructor via Woodlands Driving School. He is constantly trying his best to shortchange me. Somehow or rather he will find ways to start the lesson about 8-10 minutes late. Every single lesson he will need to go to the toilet and sometimes to even just get coffee. Worse part, when he's back with coffee he will 'chit chat' with me and don't give me the signal to go. More time wasted! When we do circuits, he will purposely pick the station with queue or where his friends are teaching nearby so he can get off the car to chit chat with them. When I ask him questions, he can't seem to give me the answer or he simply avoid the questions completely. From my observations, he simply doesn't have the 'heart' to teach. He will MOST DEFINITELY end the lesson 5-10 minutes earlier each time. To be honest, out of the 1.5 hours I feel I barely practice 50-55 minutes. To add salt to wound, previously I did a weekday with circuit he charged $89 but today, also a weekday circuit he charged $90!! He seem very dishonest, stealing both my time and money. I feel very dishearten, cos actually I've taken my test 10 years ago for 4 times but failed each time. I finally mustered the courage to face my failure, only to face stumbling stones such as a lousy instructor. But I don't want to give up. Can anyone please please recommend a reliable, 3A instructor at SSDC? Thanks guys!

Ps: He quoted me $445 for TP including 1.5 hours practice with circuit? Seems kinda exhorbidant?

Btw he is Mr Lim SJN 1103 M. HP: 9270 5388 from Woodlands Driving School. Avoid him like plague!

I totally second this! I had a few lessons with him and decided that it was enough. And I foolishly paid him upfront for the TP, but i managed to get it refunded. He took lots of coffee/ toilet breaks near one of the workers' dorms and there was once where it took up to 30 mins, so i called it out and he charged me for only 1hr.

Tried to change PDI with Woodlands Driving School but all their instructors can only teach in the afternoons or weekends.

I'm still looking for a reliable PDI for SSDC. Any recommendations?

After experiencing 8ish lessons with him, I concur 110% with the 2 of them. I started lessons with him around March 2018.
So he basically charges 54SGD for an hour and a half. But after the first 30min upon entering the car, and driving for abit, he WILL ask you to turn into this row of shops right behind SSDC, and park at the side.
Following which he'll say he'll be back shortly, as he needs to buy coffee and smoke. He even asks if I want to follow him to drink as well. ON TIME WHICH I PAID FOR. Unbelievable. And he'll always take 10~15 min, minimum, before sauntering back to the car.
It happens EVERY lesson, just that I didn't bother telling him off, as I assumed it was a habit of his.

Then I realized the annoying trend of him ending my lessons 8~10 min before the ending time, EVERY LESSON as well. So I'll literally park the vehicle around the multi-storey car park area opposite Admiralty MRT, and still have 10 min to spare. And it isn't for him to teach me verbally/theory. He literally waits for me to leave the vehicle. Again, I didn't make much of a fuss, as I'd say that's pretty minor, and forgivable.

THEN today, s**t happened. I just snapped. Ok, a little backstory.
So I already prebooked 3 lessons on SSDC circuit with him. Bear in mind my TP is already booked, and he wanted me to do circuit. He told me beforehand that he would book the circuit for me today, and for the next 2 lessons. I even called him 3 days before the lesson to double confirm, as I wanted to ensure I had the correct amount of cash. And today, when I went for lesson, I assumed we were going to SSDC. We drove there, and he started telling me how his stomach hurt cos he hadn't eaten yet, and I asked what time was the circuit booked, and he told me 4.15pm. (My lesson started at 4pm). We arrived, he parked OUTSIDE SSDC, and told me to wait while he went in to "confirm my booking". Obviously I waited. He took 20 god damn minutes to come back out, and when he did, he told me "today circuit no more slot" in mandarin. I wouldn't be surprised if he was having his cup of "coffee" inside as well. Even then, what sort of instructor books the circuit on the day AND time of the lesson itself? Even if he forgot, he could have told me truthfully at the start of the lesson, and not just accepted my payment and not tell me anything. (He charges 96SGD for circuit)

I was darn pissed, so I asked him how he was going to calculate the lesson fee, given that 30min had already been wasted with me doing NOTHING. Then he started going ape sh*t on me, telling me how petty I was, jamming the brakes while I was driving halfway and getting me to repeat what I said, as though I had said some unforgivable stuff, and he even said this, I kid you not: "You so petty, I stomach pain also want to be so petty. Like that be careful, if you make mistakes I don't tell you lah" (Translated from mandarin)
What sort of unprofessionalism is that? Totally unacceptable and ridiculous. And he even charged me 56SGD, not 54SGD AFTER this lesson, even after the wasted 30min. Apparently his fee changes based on his mood. All this while it has been 54SGD, but all of a sudden, after I chided him on the wasted time, it has become 56SGD due to it being a "weekend". But I didn't say anything about that.

His attitude is HORRIBLE. My grasp of mandarin isn't very good, despite me being Chinese. Plus he sometimes mumbles, so I have a hard time understanding. And when I try to ask him to repeat, he gets all annoyed, and in today's case, especially after I chided him on the wasted 30 minutes, he said "I really don't have time to keep repeating myself to you" (Again, translated from mandarin)

Worst part? His blatant racism. I believe it's either due to me trying to be really friendly towards him during my lessons, in the hope that he might give me extra time (He did not), or that he's extra comfortable with me, but he keeps making racist remarks about the other races, especially his Malay students, and Indian students. I find this despicable. As to the contents of it, I shall not reveal, but trust me when I say that this guy does NOT deserve to get any students wasting their/their parents' hard earned cash on him.

Another key point for any students out here, is that his fees are slightly overpriced (In my opinion)

Each lesson (An hour and a half) costs 54SGD. But you only ever get to drive for 50 min due to him taking his "breaks" and whatnot.

Circuit costs 96SGD per lesson. I havn't taken one with him as of yet, but I believe it's less than an hour. Will update this again after I've taken the remaining 2 he owes me.

TP package (Vehicle rental, and the pre-test circuit practice) costs 448SGD, which I find ridiculously expensive. I say this as I have friends with other PDIs and they all charge 300+SGD. None even come CLOSE to what mine charges.

I made this lengthy post because I am truly, and extremely pissed off, to say in the least, at him. Disgusted, annoyed, angry. And I do not hope for any future students to go through what I did. It isn't worth it. Find yourself a better PDI, or just go through school. I was willing to give up the 34SGD I spent booking the TP test, just to find another instructor. That's how bad he is.

Also, if anyone has any class 3A PDI they recommend, do let me know? I'm more concerned with an instructor who's responsible, and able to communicate effectively. Even if they don't "teach" that well, but they can do the first 2, I'm fine with it.

IMO, SSDC has very less good instructors. try to go to CDC why not? my instructor is there for those who need it. Class 3/3A (his brother) - Same to those who are quoted, if you sense something is not right, do have the courage to just leave.

I don't get why you guys still give money to them for lessons if you know something not right in the first place.
I understand the situation you guys faced. But if this instructor doesnt point out your mistakes and waits for you to get into the accident, majority he might even find fault with you. Beware.

It is just an example that one of the CDC instructors that i transferred over to and decided to call it quits and switched to private, and that its how i ended up passing with my private instructor who has the real heart and take his time to teach me and encourage. at the same time, when i make mistakes he is strict and does scold me for my own good. At least that will show that he really do his job well. Not someone who threatens you to be careful just because you reason out something.

I can't afford to go that far though. Any opinions/feedback on a PDI called Mr Ang Thiong Hing? Can't seem to find much reviews on him, but his PDI records are in the SPF database.

Based on my experience, CDC has more instructors tho, secondly is BBDC, then SSDC. or u can ask rojak123 for the instructors. She can point out who is good/bad in her system.

I don't have Mr Ang in my list. 😁

All the experienced/good ones happens to be on CDC side.
If he are really on to it, he could have done it by now.
