Met Ivan Tan (+65 96676769), and he sent me 4 reminders in the span of two days.

Asked him for his full name and he wanted to know why, and if I was checking up on his students' pass rate. Well I indeed I was checking on his pass rate, and guess what? It is a measly 30%, and on 90 students too. (large enough sample size to quantify his teaching abilities).

Nevertheless, the car for my wife was coming soon and we decided to just #yolo, and meet him because he was the only one that could meet right on the next day.

Met him, and he walked away all because I asked if we could go for a trial class today and if all is good, to pay the $80 enrolment fee at the end of the class if we are interested in continuing with him.

He just drove off. Rude.

Don't learn with Ivan Tan. Unless you want to be the 70% of students that do not pass, or put up with his poor attitude.

Thanks for sharing this invaluable feedback on him, although it hasn't gone unnoticed, if you check back on thread posts that mention him, it's usually him showing off his Mazda, I don't think many are that shallow and require to be taught in a new car.

He clearly is out for the money, hence the showing off of his car, like that'd be the deciding factor, it's not and his refusal of a trial lesson. If he had confidence and easily attain the number of students, he would not need to be in the forum, doing self promotion nor would he need to depend on the enrollment fee + first lesson as his sole income.

Good on you for insisting a trial lesson!

Firstly , I would like to mention he don't even deserve a one star rating. Engaged him through an agent called Le driving, after that went online to see reviews about him, saw bad reviews posted by others during 2009 times , hence thought it was so long ago and maybe he might change for the better so gave him a chance to teach me and I just gave it a try, first lesson everything was still ok still fine seems chatty and good , (mind you agent states that if you wanna change an instructor you have to change after first lesson otherwise gotta pay another enrollment fee) so probably this might be the reason he is acting on the first lesson. Second lesson onwards , he slowly start scolding , he doesn't go into details when teaching and just briefly say out what should be done and all without even teaching it properly, ask 1 time he explains but second time still unsure he starts raising his voice , no patience at all, eat during lesson, end lesson super early , still asked me to stop by and he went to buy newspapers and chat with his friends ,kept on scolding non stop, when you make mistake and he keep question why why why, and you do not know what to do and just keep quiet he will just scold you and say Aiya don't want say already la, say already also no use , not happy learning with me go find another instructor , no instructor will even want to teach you. Oh so he is stating his so good so patient ? Definitely not . went for 7 lessons with him , he wasted my time and money, kept asking me drive around , keep saying my driving not good and all , aft passing FTT told him I want to speed up and learn faster to go for TP faster , he just refuse to teach me other things yet stating that I still can't drive well. oh and remember I mentioned he said I was bad at driving and no instructor would even want to teach me ? Haha sorry but I got to say no the problem lies with him. How can I be so sure ? Because when I cannot take it anymore so annoyed by him feeling that I'll slap him anytime if I continue learning from him. I decided to stop going for his lessons and just take up another PDI and change to SSDC instead. My new PDI is super good for sure 100 times better than BENSON ONG HOCK CHAI LIGHT BLUE HONDA JAZZ 2208 . My new PDI (SSDC,Mr Ng), on first lesson he get me to tell him everything why I change PDI and all, he need to know my back ground before knowing how to teach, he let me drive around for the first lesson in order to see how well I drove , my new PDI has 41 years of teaching experience and is really good , he is very specific in teaching , he is funny and chatty , he is really good , on second lesson with him he taught me directional change and told me that I was a fast learner and that he taught me once and I know how to do it already, and so on third lesson with him , he taught me vertical parking and train it together with the directional change and once again he too said I learn fast and will proceed to learn parrallel parking on next lesson. He even told me that my driving skills was ok, i could manage oil and brake well. He mentioned he have seen worst students and that he too does nag at student who are really too poor , and help them to improve . He too is very shock on why BENSON ONG keep says my driving is not good and does not want to teach me other stuff . Now I've proved BENSON ONG wrong because he once said my driving not good and no instructor will want me . Sad to say I can go in circuit very soon after I picked up parrallel parking ! I'm glad that I've changed PDI, luckily to a 100 times better one . I do regret not changing earlier and ended up wasting my time and money for 7 lessons with BENSON ONG.to BENSON ONG don't even look down on your students , you don't even look like a PDI! Sorry to be harsh but he really tested my patience , you guys can go ahead and give it a try and you will know why I'm so pissed ! WILL NEVER RECCOMEND HIM! He is too much! REMEMBER NEVER EVER TAKE ON BENSON ONG HOCK CHAI HONDA JAZZ LIGHT BLUE 2208 hp: 91472208

It's been three years since this was posted but the feedback still stands. Please do avoid this person. I wanted to give him a try when I got him from a private driving instructor website despite reading all of the reviews in pdireviews because there were some 4 star reviews that mentioned that he was pretty alright. Just that he is naggy. Nope, not only naggy. During the first lesson, he already told me to drive onto the main road while he helped to steer the wheel as well. From the second lesson onwards, he was already shouting at me whenever I make small mistakes like turning. I was still not used to the amount of turns that I would have to do during a sharp turn etc, but he would just relentlessly scold like "Turn ah, why never turn". He would also give me a different set of instructions within one second. Since I am new, I still have to adjust to all of these instructions but he didn't give any chance. In one lesson, he would scold for turning too much. And in another, he would scold for turning too little. He also kept on implying that I am really bad at driving. Sometimes would sarcastically make remarks as well like, "Okay, press the accelerator la. When I ask you to press, don't want to press. Now then press." He also kept on asking me "Still sleeping ah?". And yes, he would stop 10 mins earlier than expected as well. I decided to stop after my 4th lesson and look for other instructors because I realised that I feel more stressed out whenever it's close to our practice date. Just read all of the 1 star reviews. He is exactly what all of us portrayed him to be.

Hi, I've been learning class 3A with a PDI for about 2.5 months now. He charges $40/h for non-peak and $45/h for peak for road lessons. I'm about to start circuit and he just told me that he will charge an extra $36/h for booking the circuit, on top of his fees and he estimates about 6-8 lessons of circuit before I go for practical test.

$76 for just one hour is a bit shocking for me!? Is this a reasonable price, or is he ripping me off? Pls advise :(( if he's overcharging by a lot I might as well try to find another instructor :(

PDIs have to pay an "entrance fee" to enter and use the circuit. It was $30 for CDC. But that was around 5 years back.

If anyone look out for CDC manual driving instructor pick up at yio chu kang i would recommend my instructor Mr Leong CDC Class 3 @ 9879 7966

More than 40 years of Instructor experience (he is almost 70) . he is very friendly, patient and will not get angry/ scold you when make mistakes. Always can accommodate on my schedule morning 9am or even after work 7pm to start lesson. He is always on time (only late for 5 mins a few times). Most importantly to me is he will praise you “very good” “good good” “ok good” when you did smoothly and correctly which does help to build my confidence. If you did sth wrong like mount kerb, he will tell you what’s the mistake and guided you to redo again.

He is not the tekan or dont care dont teach type. Very responsible and patient instructor. He will even chitchat with you on what you’re doing and all while on the way.

I was so scared to get a fierce instructor but it turned out to be a good one(at least i know he is whom I’m looking out for).

Rates: $36/ hr , circuit fee $37
Eg: starter usually 1.5 hours $54
Learn circuits: 1 hour from yck to cdc, cdc to yck, then 1 hour circuit ticket + use his car = $36+ $37 + $36= $109
