Geeniee do you mind sharing your current contact for PDI? Maybe I should find a PDI specially for parking..

So I should raise a request? I tried testing waters after the lesson and asked if I continue at my pace, when can I get a test date. He casually replied "a few more lessons". I think I will probably probe him a bit more in the coming lessons.

I am not sure what's the standard practice as my previous instructor (apparently one of the top PIs for CDC in terms of passing rate) just made me drive long the roads for several lessons before allowing me to advance to circuit and things kinda went downhill from there. He did not teach me parking in a random carpark at all, unlike my current instructor, and I also did not know back then that they were supposed to do so.

My only conclusion is that my previous instructor teaches students how to pass the test, while my previous instructor teaches students how to drive. Eventually for my previous instructor, parking was literally taught only during circuits where you have very limited time with each component. He expected me to follow his step-by-step method which he says confirm will work, but I feel that in driving a lot of factors can result in varying success. For example, the speed that I turn the steering wheel, sometimes I turn a bit too early or too late and therefore resulting in the car being slanted or even hitting the kerb despite following his method. End up every lessons also very stressful as each step has to be super precise and his opinion of me got worst with every lesson.

So based on my experience, I highly suggest you ask him to teach you parking, or ask him if he is the type that teach you parking only in circuit. If he is the second type, please just change away asap as you won't get to learn how to park properly. Sure, you can pass the TP, but not parking a car in a real lot itself.

Hello it's not ex actually. Mines worse :( $57 for 1.5 hours. And I have the opposite problem from you. My instructor just makes me drive round and round Ubi practising turns and says I'm driving well.. But he's not teaching me parking at all which is what I'm most worried about..

Out of curiosity, is your PDI's surname 'Tan'?

Nope I haven't. In fact I was hoping he would find a big carpark to teach me parking instead before going to the circuit since it's so expensive. But he said can only learn how to park in the circuit. How's your instructor?

I also paid $57 for 1.5 hr lesson each time. Drove around for at least 1 month before my instructor taught me parking.

Have you been to circuit yet?

I learnt my parking at UBI on Sundays since parking is FOC. My instructor is good but I made a lot of mistakes and he was getting impatient with me.

How s yours?

Mines ok but he's very unenthusiastic.. Like he seriously just keeps asking me to drive around.. And I've not even gotten the chance to do a U turn or learn to filter lanes.. Not even mention park. Do you mind sharing your contact? I might want to find an instructor just for parking..

Actually yes practicing parking in public car parks is illegal I believe as there was once when I was practicing, a TP came in and he told me to faster get out of the car park. My PDI has two locations to train parking, both super ulu, one at a dead-end HDB estate without much cars and another in a industrial estate. He makes me alternate between both to test if I can really park the car myself in different situations.

I don't think you should find a PDI especially for parking. I will PM you my contact and you should consider to change entirely. I highly do not recommend practicing parking only in the circuit as that means you have very little practice and most importantly, when you get your license, you will only know how to park the car in the circuit's parking lot. I personally find that the environment outside of the circuit is completely different as you have other cars around to be careful, motorcyclists and other cars coming by as you park etc. I am actually quite thankful for the practice now that's why I am not complaining even though its just parking non-stop during lessons for now.

Perhaps consider trying out one or two lessons with a few other PDIs, then change to whoever you think you are most comfortable with? Learning to drive really not cheap. :(

Parking in circuit is a no brainer.

1) reach a certain marker
2) full lock left/right
3) straighten vehicle

Gao dim. Circuit training is the best since they have markers here and there for you to gauge. By the way, some cars full lock may not get into the hole too so gotta go by own personal sensing and gauge.

The real challenge comes about in the real world when you have no markers, motorists zooming next to you, impatient drivers horning you. If you cant get it at the first try, No sweat. Second try still can't, can give chance.

Third try and you still aint in, better leave unless you have skin thick enough to tahan the impatient drivers.

Like finally after searching high and low, asking for PDIs contact no, i found one, which is highly recommended by most of u in this forum. Starting this coming 4th july. Wish me luck. Hope he turns out to be like the recommendations. First thing i ask when he ans the call is, "do u speak english." When he says, "yes", was such a relieve.

Mr Frankie is my PDI.
All the best to you. Mr Frankie was my PDI as well and I passed on my first try just this morning :D
