It would be political suicide for any politician or political party. They will err on the side of caution and ask the Muslim to speak to his religious leaders about it i.e. forget the whole idea, just accept it and move on.

Then bring this matter up publicly and target MUIS. The mainstream has to be more vigilant and not allow MUIS to keep silent and drag their feet! MUIS should do their work. Muslims should be allowed to denunce their faith. Period!

Dear TS,

Simply update your religious status with ICA, contrary to any idiots , in islam there's no compulsion in religion.

if a marriage is involved then you need to approach shariah court. As inheritence ,marriage and death comes under shariah law.

Simple...

There is no compulsion in Islam? Nice try with your Taqiyya! Leave Islam as soon as you can and as soon as you want. Go to MUIS and make a commotion. Call foreign and local journalists along. Bring this nosferatu along too! :s13:

And why does it matter to you whether Muslims are allowed to denounce their faith or not? You are so desperate to convert them to your own faith? :s8:

Since you are going to target Muslims, why not ask the catholic church to explain how catholics can denounce the faith they are born into? :s8::s8:

I think TS will find the info he needs here.

For me, I got a deed poll done and changed my name and updated ICA to change my religion.

I think I'll need to follow up on getting my name removed from MUIS registry as I'd like a cremation and my ashes scattered on the mountains far away from here.

In any case, religion is a personal matter. You decide your own fate.

How is it comparable?
Is there similar consequences for Catholics leaving as with apostasy in Islam?
What kind of crap comparison is this? To deflect from the real issue at hand?

The comparison is they are both born into the religion so naturally its more difficult to get out of versus one's choice to join.

And what makes you think its easy for a catholic to renounce his faith? If one goes to the church to ask how he can renounce his faith, do you seriously think the church will teach them how to do so? Naturally they will talk you out of it, likewise with TS not getting a reply from Muis, same logic.

Are you trying to act dumb or what?
Do you understand what could happen to an ex-Muslim vs an ex-Catholic?

Comparing Catholic and Muslim quite different ah. While it is true that both faiths have no such things to truly leave from a theology standpoint, the consequences are quite different. We also need to separate the secular/legal view from religious.

For Catholics, you can choose not to practice the faith but no theology method to leave by yourself (excommunicated is like getting fired as opposed to resign). U can't undo a baptism though. But to most people, non practice is good enough, why bother to make it formal as no one else really care? The wider Catholic community won't treat a non practicing Catholic as a pariah because it holds up hope that he will change..

But this does not happen in the Muslim community. You will be treated as a pariah.

Perhaps this website will shed some light to your questions.

http://cemsg.org/officially-renouncing-islam-in-singapore-faqs/

I am very sorry if this may seem inappropriate to post, however I am really in need of help.
I have been actively researching on how to renounce Islam legally in Singapore for the past 2 months. I even found a facebook page for Ex-Muslims saying that I should get a deedpoll and change my name.

I do not wish to change my name, I only want to renounce it officially so I may no longer be bound under their syariah laws.
I am calling out to anyone who has done this before to please help me.
Every organisations I have contacted are avoiding this matter like the plague be it government or private.
Muis is not even answering my concerns its aggravating.

I am an athiest and I only wish to free myself from the syariah law.

That's a good link and they clearly state the difficulty and just some of the implications and complications that exist for Singaporeans that want to renounce Islam.

The reality is it is not simple and requires the assistance of MUIS officers which may not be forthcoming as they will certainly have other priorities in their limited time. There is also the case of inheritance and familial issues.

Under Islamic law, the penalty is clear from the links provided previously. No amount of pretending or hiding one's head in the sand can change facts.

Islamic Law is clear on the punishment for apostasy. This video is an attempt to show the truth facing those who want to leave Islam as well as those that eventually do. A long list of imams have left Islam and it takes a very brave person to do so.

YES, I wrote IMAMS - not ordinary Muslims!
List of former imams who converted to Christianity -
Dr. Mustafa (now Dr. Mark Gabriel) - Former Muslim Imam, Ex-Professor in Al Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt
Dr. Muhammed Rahoumy (now Dr. Samuel Paul) - Former Dean in Al Azhar Islamic University in Cairo Egypt.
El-Faqi - Ex-Imam and lawyer.
Hajji Husman Mohamed - Former Ethiopian Muslim Imam.
Hamran Ambrie - Indonesian Ex-Muslim cleric.
Mohammed Amin - Former Ethiopian Islamic cleric.
El-Akkad - Former Muslim preacher from Egypt.
Ak-Beket - Former Imam from Kazakhstan.
Mullah Assad Ullah - Former mullah from Afganistan.
Fahmir - A Mullah started to preach the Gospel in Afghanistan.
Mischa - Mullah converts and becomes a church planter
Sudanese Muslim Imam - Converts to Christianity.
Rahman - Convert from Kosovo leads Mullah to Christ.
Dr. Imad ud-Din Lahiz (Rev. Mawlawi) - Was a prolific Islamic Writer, Preacher, Qur'anic Translator.
Khalif Majid Hassan - Former Islamic preacher, and minister in the Nation of Islam.
Jeremiah Fard Muhammad - Muslim minister, now Christian evangelist.
Saleh Hussaini - Former Nigerian Muslim cleric.
Sam Solomon - Former Muslim scholar who trained in Shari'ah law for 15 years.
Yusuf Roni - Former Islamic Dawah Missionary, Islamic Youth Organization Chairman in Indonesia. Now a Christian preacher.
Jamal Zarka - Former Muslim Imam, Now Evangelist
Sheikh Mohamed Mansour - Prominent Egyptian Muslim Sheikh and Islamic Scholar.
Hamza - Former Islamic scholar.
Timothy Abraham - Former Muslim preacher and fundamentalist, now Christian Preacher.
Daniel Shayestah - Former Qur'anic teacher and scholar.
Ahmed Abdullahi - Former Muslim cleric.
Emmanuel (formerly Mohammed) - Former Muslim scholar.
Zak Gariba - Former Muslim Imam.
Mr. Moro S. Franci - Former Imam.
Mario Joseph (Moulvi Sulaiman) - Former Muslim cleric

We are fortunate here in Singapore where Islamic Law only affects civil issues which do not include punishment of death or stoning or chopping off of hands.

Evidence from Yusuf al-Qaradawi, one of Sunni Islam's most important personalities for many decades, on the use of apostasy laws and how it has kept Islam alive and its numbers high.
