Repasting MSI RX580, does distro offer such things?

Recently got higher temps since its pretty much old alr.. and warranty i think is almost finish iirc.. not sure when i bought it.

Want to reduce temps and replace thermal paste but never tear down a gpu before.. only replace paste for cpu so far.. scared i screw something up disassembling or reassembling it. See the gpu tear down videos i scare liao.

Does the distro allow to repaste the gpu?(using factory default thermal paste or can repaste?

But gaming x cooler the same as the one on 1080? Both diff die size etc chip?

If you think the temps are unusually high, and not due to dust gathering on the fan, then may be can bring it back to Corbell to check since it is still under warranty. MSI cards come with a sticker to prevent you from removing the cooler. In doing so, you basically void the warranty on the card.

If it is out of warranty, then just go ahead and repaste your own thermal compound. It is fairly simple, just have to careful when removing the fan (shroud included) as there may be couple of cables, 1 for the fan, and likely 1 more for the LED lights.

If you purchased it locally, distributors paste a sticker which prevents the cards from being tampered with. Better bring it to distributor and let them reapply any thermal paste themselves and re-stick any tampered stickers to save your warranty. But if its purchased via Amazon/Newegg you can safely remove the heatsink without worrying about voiding your warranty because it is illegal in the US to put any "warranty void if tampered" stickers on the cards.

Since warranty is about to expire, you can just take the plunge and disassemble. I've removed heatsinks from GPUs before and never found it difficult.

MSI is 3 years warranty.
