Replace Mid 09 13inch MBP Battery

Hey,
I tried searching for thread regarding the replacement of battery of for my mbp but there's none so far. Ok, I have a 13inch mbp mid09 and the currently the battery life sucks. It's been 4 years now and I think it' due for a change.

So, I need some help from u guys to help me decide whether I should buy the battery online and change it myself or just send it to a repair shop here around Sg?

If I were to buy it online, could you recommend a site where I could get the battery and all the necessary tools for the job? I'm thinking of buying from Amazon but I'm worried the battery they are selling is used or 2nd hand. On the other hand, iFixit do sell the battery but the price is way too expensive.

Lastly if i decide to send to it a repair shop in SG, could you guys recommend me a shop that is good and reliable and possible reasonably priced too? I don't wish to get cheated.

4yrs are dinosaur years in laptop world.... and I do agree that at the 4 yr mark...most macbooks still can perform quite decently for the basic usage like web surfing, office suite jobs, etc... with the regular OS updates and the recent free Maverick upgrade...the lifespan of the machine is being drawn out quite abit.

I am in almost the same situation as you......mine is an early 2009 macbook 13" (not even pro mind you)..... battery life sucks now but I plug in 95% of the time anyway..so don't really bother me.

You have to decide how much time you can buy with spending the money to change the battery at this stage? Another 6 months? 1 yr? Being out of Applecare, everyday without a hardware component failure is a blessing already.
Will it make more sense to change to a current generation machine to last another 4 yrs from now?

if you wan to DIY, go sls, 2nd floor, battery.com.sg

ifixit.com also can but its more expensive last I checked.

there is also a guy who do replacement for you on the spot. his price is slightly above sls to factor in his time and effort. plus he provides warranty. he has threads in hwz

regarding to change or not. I have the same issue as you, my mbp has 1 hour battery life currently but I rarely bring it out so I'm contented to wait on this. But I have another issue which is the battery is starting to bloat.

Bought a new battery (model A1322) from ebay at SGD$62 (includes shipping costs).
The replacement process is very easy. Just check out ifixit for instructions.
Take note that you need to find a special screwdriver. Find the screwdriver while
you wait for the battery to deliver.

Yes, the battery was 5561mAh when it was brand new. Today, after slightly more than one year and 136 cycles, it is 5390 mAh. Not bad.

Hey, someone told me that we are not allowed to buy batteries overseas and then shipped it to SG. He said this is due to some NEA or customs regulation.If is this true, then how do u get the seller to ship the battery to you?

i bought batteries from ebay and able to shipped to my home, no issue leh.

if you are concerned about this, then get from sls, I called and checked.

its $65 for the so called original battery
