replacement Mother board recommendation ?

Had a compaq presario CQ3088D Desktop. Turn on PC...no display....Suspect is MB faulty as I swap with another working gfx but still same outcome. The PSU is also working fine...

I dont wish to setup a new rig..but would like to just replace a new MB.

Current mb as per the website

HP/Compaq motherboard name: Napa-GL8E

So appreciate if anyone know abt this type and what suitable replacement mb i can buy ...

CPU is Core 2 Quad Process Q8400

Problem is it is almost no way to be able to find the motherboard in current market.

And another problem. If you change the mobo, you practically got to change the ram, the cpu almost as good as new.

wow..out of production for MB meant for Core 2 Quad Processor already....haiz.

So best bet is to buy second hand from hwz here who happen to want to upgrade ?

Try Tradepac. The same thing happened to me previously and I bought my Asus mobo from them to use with my Q8300.

The mobo is still listed on their pricelist.

Ah... I see. Thanks for the info! I was actually contemplating between getting just a new mobo for my sis' Q8200 or new CPU + mobo. I suppose it's gonna have to be the latter then.

Previously I bought the Asus P5G41T-M LX from Tradepac for between $70-90 I think. The good thing for me was that it uses DDR3 ram, but that's not what you want. PC Themes has another one on its list, the MSI G41M combo at $99. That should probably allow you to re-use all your existing components, but I'm not sure if they still have it in stock.

You may also try Gigabyte G41M-Combo which is available at SLS shops.

You can call Tradepac to check if they have stock for MSI G41M-Combo, i brought mine 4 months ago for only $75 cash.

Else you could consider the on by Gigabyte for $95. Which is available in Best Buy, Best Bargin and so on if i recall correctly.

Both board allows for (2 slots) DDR 2 Ram and (2 slots) DDR 3 RAM (but only limited to 1033 mhz).

But you cannot mix both. If your casing by Compac i am not sure if they bolted down the motherboard to the casing panel. If Yes, you would be better off getting a new casing.

In the mean time, a PSU replacement would also be good.

To further enhance your value and not making it feel slow you could add in a SSD, the cheapest one would do. Get the 128GB at least through.

thanks bro...did a check....my current mobo say SATA for my HDD but the MSI combo is Sata II....so mean cannot use my old HDD ?

ur hdd should be SATA II. btw, SATA I, II and III all use the same SATA slot and are compatible

if I do a transfer of my CPU to the new mobo....i just ned to clean the paste on the cpu with normal tissue and then apply a new layer of thermal paste right ? or alcohol to cleanoff ?

should be after the IDE connector era...so possible is SATA I
