As long as your HDD is using SATA, it will work. And also, regarding the thermal paste, best if you can wipe it off with alcohol before re-applying. It's easier and cleaner.
And you'll want to take note that when applying the new thermal paste, lesser is better. Just the size of a grain of rice, in the middle of your CPU should do the trick.
