I got a HP 2510P. I replaced my cd drive with a HDD caddyZ but somehow it didn't work. It hanged the system and it just freeze until the HDD caddy is removed.

Any solution? I have a feeling it's the HDD caddy that's broken.

Is your harddisk still in good condition?
I am doing this way with my Thinkpad too. No issue so far.
The caddy itself has no electronics inside. Just connector and LED light.

Don't think is related to boot order as he may be still booting from internal drive.

Hmm, was thinking along the lines of this

1) second hdd
2) optical disc
3) main boot sector / OS

thus it led to a no boot situation / hang
