Hi Guys,

Need some help here. I think my late 2009 iMac's card is having some issue. Any idea which graphics card is compatible to fit into it? Anyone upgraded before?

Current card is ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB

I have shortlisted a couple.
1. Asus HD6450 Silent 1GB DDR3 - $69
2. MSI N610GT 1GB GDDR3 - $65
3. Sapphire HD6450 1GB DDR3 - $60

You just can't get an off the shelf graphic card to replace the iMac's graphic card.

You would need to go back to an apple service provider or independent service provider in SLS.

NO WAY,
The graphic card is soldiered into the mother board.
The cost would be about $500 -$1000 to change...

U WILL BE SHOCKED ! maybe it will cost $1500 if u go back to apple center.
Just look for SLS shops.. it will be 50% cheaper...

like what he said, i think its the later version of Mac (2011 or later) when apple start soldering the graphic card to the motherboard. Correct me if im wrong though!
refer to OP's post again, he said

late 2009 iMac's card

this is not soldered...

the newer ones are soldered, but then it doesn't meet OP's requirements...

Thank you all for the replies. I managed to google for the look of the card too.
So the only way is to get source for one or go back to apple service centre...

can try eBay.. if you're adventurous, can try the GTX680M coz the 2012 imacs uses that card (a soldered on version though) so there would be driver support for it... at most sell on ebay again if not compatible...
