Hi all, I'm a noob when it comes to lighting so wanted to get some advice.

i have a LED wall light that comes with an LED driver. Everything works fine but I wanted to see if it's possible to swap out the LED to something lower wattage so it's not as bright.

I would have imagined someone could easily swap out the LED strip (maybe even re-use the casing) and I'd be good to go (or at most, also replace the LED driver?) but i have no idea and the lighting shops in geylang all said not possible.

Just wanted to see if anyone here might know.

Thanks!

just need to match the strip spec to the driver spec.
just make sure the strip can fit the space you need to paste it on.

You can replace the led strip with a lower wattage, not the driver.

thanks for the replies, everyone! much appreciated

does anyone know where i can buy the LED strip from? do i have to go to a special lighting shop compared to the ones at geylang/balestier?

in the meantime, i just took some baking paper and neatly taped over the lights which achieved the same effect i was going for lol

There are two main types of led strips, constant voltage or constant wattage. Not sure which type of strip you have. In general, the wattage of the driver has to be more than the led strip. In my RGBW led cove lights, it’s on a constant 12V, so the voltage on driver is fixed at 12V. The ceiling led lights is on a constant 32W wattage. The driver is totally different, the voltage varies while the power is fixed.
