Just wondering, would it affect warranty? Also, does it really make a huge difference? Just ordered a new gpu and was thinking of doing it but worried might screw up the warranty. Have got some thermal grizzly kryonaut that i'm thinking of using on it.

if this information helps, the gpu i ordered is the Asus Strix 1080Ti OC.

if your card got those distro stickers on the screws, it will be a problem if you damage the stickers.

the only brand i know that do not put stickers on the screw would be Zotac.

The Strix has good paste, and even mining zcash doesn't overheat. Changing the paste can reduce temps by about 6c but honestly the cooling on the Strix is more than good enough, and the few c that you reduce it won't help you in any way.

hmm well cos i thought i got those paste lying around then why not put it to use. 😄 then again, 6deg difference is actually quite a big difference no?

ohh really? but paiseh to disturb him leh. and i'm not a very handy person. worried i might mess things up 😔

Asus don't let you open their gpu. Will void warranty. But I think royfrosty korkor know how to avoid that. Drop him a pm see if he have a way?

6c may seem big... But for what? What reason would you have? What benefit do you think you will get

as a general rule of thumb, i would prefer to keep my system as cool as possible? 😐

I'd much rather delid the CPU than to change out the thermal paste on the Asus Strix card. I think cards in that league and as what I have read in reviews, are already using pretty good thermal paste. I think past the warranty period is a better time to change out the thermal paste and not worth voiding the warranty for such an expensive card. AFAIK, only the ZOTAC and Gigabyte cards locally can be removed. Gigabyte distro sticker is on the screw but that screw is removed from the inside of the card so you will never strip the sticker in anyway. I know cause I had one before but sold it for the MSI Gaming X before I wanted to apply some Kryonaut to that. The Gigabyte cards are worth doing it cause from my experience and from other users on OCN3D, Gigabyte did a bad job on pasting the GPU.

So I think delidding your CPU will provide more gains than changing out the GPU thermal paste. If you wanna cool the Strix further, you can probably put a 120/140mm static pressure fan blowing over the backplate cause that helps temps by 3-5 degrees depending on your temps. I do that and it helps. ;)

Head to ban leong and ask them to replace the thermal paste that you provide. They should be able to do so.

Use WD40 and let it soak maybe 24hours, cover sticker in excess but don't let it touch other components.. troublesome to clean up after that. Don't spray WD40 directly, spray somewhere and slowly apply.. seems to work for me.. just that reapply got to use some art glue..

*not responsible if u kill ur board for trying :s22: *

I got someone to do it for me. He does it for alot of people. And he is GOOD. Only problem is he stay AMK; at least for me. But well worth the trip there. He did a great job and I lost 25 degrees on my CPU. Running under 70 load now on my 4.8Ghz 6700k!

Was considering Strix in the past. But the flexibility to change paste without voiding warranty on EVGA was more attractive. Had much lower temps after changing.

I can post my results from Intel Burn Test on very high mode and you can see at 1.4V my load temps dont cross 68-70 degrees.

That is my sweet spot for now. Previously I could only hit 4.6Ghz and that itself was hitting 86 degrees at 1.325V. I could not even get into Windows at 4.8Ghz then.

My cooler is H100i V2.
