I have an old GS70 Stealth where the temperatures are getting oddly high (95C!!) lately. I'm thinking it's time to replace the TIM with maybe Noctua or Arctic Silver

Has anyone tried this? How hard is it? Is there a shop/someone who can do this for a fee?

You don't want arctic silver on your the bare chips, it has no heat spreader. It has slight electrical conductivity.
If you're willing to pay someone will do it.

Thanks! Anyone know how much Nigel would charge, or what's a fair amount to give him?

Somewhat tempted to try doing it myself but these compact laptops have really tight construction

Tried it on my old thinkpad T43. If u got the maintenance manual, then just follow the instructions. If u dun have then need sometime to figure out how to dismantle the parts one by one to reach the thing u want to change

Be very careful when dismantling cos laptops like to use a lot of thin ribbon cables and these are very fragile.

But might want to try first dismantle a bit and blast compressed air into it. Might be due to dust clot the inside

Quite unnerving at first.
Gradually you will get better. :)

Tip:
Check out YouTube videos and online dismantle guides while you do your dismantle.

Second Tip:
Have isopropyl alcohol / alcohol swabs at hand to remove gunked up thermal paste.

When applying thermal paste for the first time, lightly and gently (emphasis) press down the top of the syringe..

Many a times me and many others included, have under estimated our strength and depress alittle too much paste.

Ideally it is probably 1-2 grains of rice amount
