only recently, mods started to move movies/tv shows threads in edmw to the more appropriate sub forums. me very appreciative of dat change. yes, me did make such suggestion two years back and was told to ask threadstarter whether agreeable on the move. it did puzzle me and me left things at where they were after ts said no.

dun juz lookout for racial/religious stuff. keep check on anti-social behaviours to like cyberbullying. most of the time, the bullies and the stirrers r the same bunch.

Rest assured, it may not be obvious but we do look at everything as a whole. :)

for a very simple fact, repeated stirrers/offenders very black and white. and asymmetric attacks if can't do direct.

once one is worried being labelled as no respect for freedom of speech, one shldn't be doing the moderating. this is not to contest any mod. spare the rod and spoil the child if u get my drift.

my suggestion is simple. perhaps it's time to break up edmw. the name smelly already. sub forums for different subjects. no anything goes sub forum. but if hwz is worried abt losing traffic, dan it's really up to up guys liao.

We understand where you are coming from. The tag for EDMW is everything under the sun. However, those members mistakenly assumed that it gives them license to post anything they want.

Agreed, freedom of speech shouldn't be mistaken as being synonymous with hate speech and prejudice. Admittedly, in the past occasions the moderation there has been somewhat lenient. We are in the midst of discussing and drawing clear lines of what is not acceptable.

As you might have noticed, the moderating team has been more prudent on the offences but we do have to balance positive views with negative views, as long as they are not extremely offensive to a particular group or society in general.

We try as best as we could and we will try to do better. We are, after all, just human. :o

monitor these two threads:

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/eat-drink-man-woman-16/lai-liao-lai-liao-israeli-air-force-strikes-targets-gaza-after-hamas-rocket-attack-july-15-a-5109463.html

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/eat-drink-man-woman-16/%5Bbreaking%5D-isis-destroys-egyptian-navy-vessel-5109439.html

can find the usual suspects. nowadays, resort to taunting because cannot do direct assault. mothership.sg did subtly *hint* the chief baiters/stirrers. they probably using clones now.

***/p&h - guess wat it meant.
juice/jews did it - it's antisemitism.

one can be a racist but don't have to bigot about it. dat's the difference. going online to act on one's prejudice/racist view/opinion - dat's bigotry.

juz read some news articles on the reddit saga. ya, me wols. the saga was somewat abt moderation too.

anyways, here's some tots to add on to my previous suggestion abt zoning matured and sensitive subjects. and method to stamp out clones or rather make stirring clones less of a nuisance.

post counts

forum members must log-in to view such zoned-up sub forum. think reddit employs such method.

forum members must hv at least 5000 post counts to participate in such forum. ok, 5k is juz a suggested figure. it shld be high enuff to deter stirring clones (new sign-ups).

all forum members cannot post zoned-up sub forum subjects anywhere else other dan the designated area. mods really hv to enforce this. if any sub forum thread discussion starts to stray into such subjects, mods hv either the choice to close the thread or move it into the zone. and anyone keeps stirring, hwz needs to take action.

forum members with 5k post counts in zoned-up sub forum stir up nonsense, reduce their post counts to 500. too bad for them, they hv to work their way or behaviour up to 5k to access the zoned-up sub forum again. start a clone? it wld be pointless too unless they hv a clone acct with 5k post counts. well, use this clone acct to stir, reduce the post counts too.

no banning, no infraction. no censorship. little moderating. honestly, me dunno wat infraction does. not intend to get one either.

can members appeal against post counts reduction? sure. juz give them a warning dat if the reduction is justifiable, they will face a permanent ban for wasting time on mods' investigation.

suggestion only. :o
