Hello all.

I have 2 old CPUs more than 20 years old, both untested and unused for more than 10 years now.

I am thinking what to do with them other than recycling them as e-waste.

Not sure if there is anything salvageable for other usage since the RAM & motherboard would be too old.

Presented with a device as such, what would be your approach and suggestion ?

Thanks all !

20 years?
Running Win 98 or Win XP?
Honestly no use liao.
Even $200 Entry Level Android Phone more powerful.

Both Windows 98 upgrade to Windows XP subsequently

Thanks !

Basically e-waste at this stage, just recycle.

Depending on what you have, can try selling on ebay to those retro gaming otakus also

Thanks !

Thanks !

Otaku only interested in pre-millennium stuff, WinXP is still too new.

Show the details, photo even better.

20 years? eWaste. Too slow to run a decent Ubuntu server even.

Won't be surprised if the Raspberry Pi can outperform the 2 boxes.

If ur 20 year old CPU is a legacy Intel Celeron - I have clients who specialise in the LTS servicing of legacy gaming cabinets.

Let me know what the exact CPU models are. if its those era they are looking I can ask them if they are interested in the stock.

Although is old.. it is meant for 20 years old software ... So is actually fast

Consider raspberry pi is pretty slow using today's software... Even though the spec looks satki... Working on it doesn't...

Anyway like some mention... Vintage pc is pretty in demand.... Especially working and rare sets... Unfortunately selling overseas is a no no...Since shipping will cost a bomb

So today I managed to switch on both CPUs.

Both CPUs are on Pentium III.

Had a great day playing Solitare and Freecell.

Run distributed computing projects on it. But at today's high electricity prices, bot worth it.

Alternatively, run a file server..

You are right. Some industry type of automation machine still use this kind of CPU. Speed is relative. I was also suprised that one of my 1G Celeron machine was sold to one nice user. Reason is he need a specific CPU and motherboard that still have a ISA interface.

Store it in cool and dry conditions for another decade and you've got a couple of collectibles.
