Request for Early Enlistment (NEED HELP)

I just got my enlistment letter today and i'm scheduled for 10 sept(PTP batch). However, my concern is that NUS intake is august yearly and if I ORD during the sept period, I will have to wait almost 1 whole year before the next intake.

Is there any way to enlist early before august or a special arrangement with the uni?

Depending on which unit you go to, you can request for 1 month exemption. Many of my NS mates did that. You can request through your OC (and talk to him about your situation) or personally see an officer at SCDF HQ to request. However do ensure that you've already got a place in the university (NUS or etc) and apply 6-8 months before you ORD. If you decide to go Overseas university, most probably you'll not get 'exempted'. Best still, on your 1st day of enlistment, ask your parents to go talk to the SCDF officer regarding this matter.

Sept/Nov batch enlistees can apply to disrupt if university starts in August. However this only applies for local or overseas unis, not DL programmes.

Just that one month (Sep). However you will still need to serve that one month before you are considered ORDed.

I was in the same situation as you 5 years ago. Frequent calls and emails to MINDEF did nothing - I have been told that the batches I want (in June) were already full. I was told that I'm on a waitlist of sorts, but nothing happened in the end.

So I just enlisted in September and applied for disruption a few months before I became a student at NUS. It's fairly straightforward to apply and you will be able to disrupt as long as you do so early and have the right paperwork ready. The only caveat is that they will officially let you off just a week before term starts (getting your IC and all) so you might miss some orientation camps and events at NUS etc. Of course, you can still use your leave/off or arrange with your unit for early release.

You can then choose to serve the remainder (aka "resumption of service") during any semester break by applying on NS.sg.

Ultimately it depends on the unit you're posted to. I know some people who managed to get a month's worth of Off and Leave from their OCs (and skip disruption altogether), but it wasn't possible where I was.
