Really depends on your unit. For me is almost once a year, but they will always inform you in advance. It can be at any time of the year.

ya depends

sometimes call you few times a year

sometimes many years never call you

it depends on how active your unit is

dont worry too much la; if receive notification, just react accordingly.

so either twice a yr LK... planned nicely so considered as one.... or HK more than 2 wks ones

just need to use your legs to move above and climb stairs... lifts faulty often... it aching after that many times of daily climbing...:s22:

I am wondering for those who start Uni after ORD and your are in a combat vocation mono-intake.

Would you sacrifice missing class or defer because either it sucks.

If miss class for 2 weeks, a lot of catching up.

If defer ICT from your unit, confirm kena make-up ICT with other unit.

Which would you choose because Uni at most 3-4years.

dun worry they will give u 6 mths notice.

I know they will give ample time for notice. Just would like to seek advice from those in similar situation.

My son just enlisted and have already secure a place in our local Uni which will commence a month after he ORD. Timing couldn't be better for him.

Personally, I rather not skip ICT but I'd never studied full time after ORD. I did took part-time local poly diploma. I did my full 13 cycles (that time is 13) without disruption but lucky enough all my ICT was not during my exam periods.

if your son's Uni is recognized IHL, shouldn't ICT be called during the IHL black-out window i.e. during the longer semester vacation?

If it's those 1 or half day duration (which I guess it may just be for some briefing/IPPT etc), just go lor. I ever have to go for IPPT in the morning half of the day (got RO so cannot siam) and then late afternoon still got lectures/tutorials to go

Can I check what’s the oldest age that NS will call you back? I’m done with Uni already but so far still no reservist and no unit. Previously from training institute

Can be any age before 40.

I ord-ed in 2006 and was posted to holding unit until 2014 when they posted me to a unit and I went for reservist for the first time in 2015 when I was 31.

I have even heard that some people got their 1st call up at 38 or 39 and ended up only did 1 or 2 ICTs before ROD.

Statutory age is 40 and 50 for non officers and officers respectively

Thanks for the reply.

His Uni is one of six national uni. But I understand different universities here run their degree programmes at different schedules unlike fix semesters like primary or secondary schools.

I hope this IHL blackout window is still practice at all the six national unis.

At the end of the day, it's his prerogative to decide. I prefer uninterrupted ICT cycle.

Just sharing my experience. I disrupted my NS for university study in NUS. During my first year vacation, I went back to the unit to complete the remaining of my NS. I was not called for ICT for my second year. My first ICT only started after I graduated (my degree is three years). Not only that, I joined a different unit for my first ICT in December instead of going for my own (which is in June).

I think SAF would not disturb your son when he is studying in U. He would most likely start his ICT only after he has finished his degree.

I testify to that. My elder brother got call up at 38. Only did 2 days of 1st ICT because of his obesity and health. They outpro him after he did 2.4km and had breathing difficulties. Based on MO assessment.

dont think it's tt logic

if its the local unis e.g NUS/NTU for example, they can opt to call the young chap back for ICT during the "blackout time" i.e. mid or year end school holidays

If can i wud rather start my ICT cycle early
so tht can faster finish 10yr and faster MR
unless u kena KAH and siao on wan to extend to do ROVER
