Reservist Up-PES?

Alright, some background first. 7 months before my enlistment, I found out that I was PES E9L9; I was disappointed because I wanted a combat vocation, but I figured I was lucky, so I decided not to change it. Fast forward to 8 months into my NS, I got bored of my job, so I decided to try to up-PES, but after seeing my MO, I found out I had to wait 10 months for my *** interview. 10 months later, I changed my mind, and told the *** interviewer I didn't want to up-PES. But today, 1.5 years after my ORD, I look back and I wish I didn't pass up every opportunity I had to up-PES. This is why I want to up-PES before my Reservist; I know it won't be the same as upping PES in NS, but I want to know if any NSmen have already done this. If you have, what was it like? Did you get any additional combat training? Were you posted out to a different unit? Was it worth it? If you're wondering why I want to do this now, it's because the terrorism threat has gotten worse in SE Asia these past few months, and I'm sure SAF is doing a lot right now to ensure the country is safe from an attack. I'm not saying I think I would make a big difference, but I don't want to hide behind my PES status. I want to do everything I can to help SAF by doing the best I can as a reservist soldier.

Wah. Such a driven soldier. Consider MDES?

means that u ORD as PES E?

very rarely that u will be involved in any combat roles as u aren't BMT trained.

however u may be involved in indirect combat roles such as Security Trooper as the training duration is rather short which thus, suitable for maybe 1 HK.

just for your reference, there are PES B ASA (clerk) who upgraded from PES E prior and after ORD.

if u do not have a chance to contribute thru the SAF, u can consider volunteering thru your CC or RC instead which has more social exposure.

I see PES A clerk during ICT. No point up pes during reservist because your are not trained in any other vocation. You already have a 'job' in your unit which is clerk & they will unlikely revocate you (& post you out to other unit).

I understand, but there's still a chance, right? Wouldn't it still be my last chance to become combat fit?

You will have a chance to up pes to comabt fit but most likely no chance of getting a combat vocation or even change of vocation.

Bro, first, let me commend you on your dedication to serve in the SAF. Especially for reservist, most would admit fate and take the PES status they were granted since ORD and live thru their entire reservist 10 cycle. SG needs more ppl like you, with the mindset of "if not me, then who else" to take the lead. Don't bother about the naysayers as they do not care at all.

Personally I would say it is possible to up PES as I personally upped from E1L9 to C2L3 this year, but that was not without a few specialist appt, and 2 medical board in person review in camp and at MMI, which they seen I was well enough. I was also lucky as the specialist I seen used to be a member of the SAF board of specialist so he knew all the procedure.

Here's some questions for you:
1)What's your underlying reason why you want to up PES? Are you looking to get a PES A/B eligible job in the govt sector?
If you are looking for PES A/B I would say chances are very very slim as SAF will not want to take a risk. They will be more receptive to work with you to up to PES C then review again in a few years if there are improvement to your health condition.

2) Have you been thru at least combat BMT? If not even if you upgrade, you won't be assigned combat positions.

3) If you wanna participate, there are many other ways other than SAF. SPF is starting out a VSC(Community) scheme in Jan 2018 where you will patrol the streets as police presence without firearms but with T-baton and handcuffs.Training will be for a few weeks and pay wise it's worth nothing as it's the same VSC $3/he allowance. That has no PES status restrictions but you need to serve min 8 hours a month to mantain your status. This scheme is very new so PM me if you need more info.

What's an example of a "PES A/B Eligible" job in the govt sector?

Hi, pes does affect your employability, just saying. Im personally e1l9 for mild condition. I triedto persuade mmi but the MO didnt even forward my pdf. As a result, i ord as e1l9. I seriously damn dulan, because it has affected my employablity cos employer keep asking why i pes e. I mean its such a mild condition why should a saf status affect my outside life. Pea becomes not funny anymore when people Judge you for it

As mentioned in the other thread, you looking for jobs that are physical in nature is it?
