I will be restoring my MBA mid 2012 recently. This is the 1st time doing this. It has been good but getting slower. And I need to do bootcamp because I need Windows for a few work related tasks. So I think it is better that I do a restore, starting every fresh and bootcamp.

Just to check, is there anything that I should take note of?

I will do it via Control-R during start up. I created a recovery-USB when I 1st got this MBA so I will be using it for this restoration. But, if this USB is not working, what other alternatives do I have?

Of course before doing any restoration, backup is the first thing I wanna make sure to do. If you have Time Machine setup, just make sure that we have a final backup before continuing.

If you have a 2012 MBA, it most like came with internet recovery. So if your USB recovery does not work, you can boot to internet recovery by holding down Command+Option+R on startup.

It will take awhile though if you're using wifi as it will need to redownload the operating system which is about 5GB.

Since you are having performance issue, i'm guessing you would like to do an erase & install instead so the following article would help -
support.apple.com/kb/HT5943

Note: after restoration, you may not want to restore from time machine as it will just bring back all your data and defeats the purpose of erase and install.
