Retina MacBook connect to external display

I have a Dell 3007WFP (30' inch monitor), hook up with a dual link DVI to mini displayport cable, but it can only display up to 1280 x 800. Not the max resolution. Running on Yosemite, 10.10.

I have tried both of these solution but it doesn't work for me:
• Force RGB mode in Mac OS X to fix the picture quality of an external monitor | i reckon
• Fix External Monitor Resolution on MacBook Pro with Retina Display

I have also tried downloading software to force the resolution but it was blurry... was wondering anyone has any solution.

Are both the adaptor and DVI cable capable of DVI dual link?

I'm using an external monitor at 2560x1440 with my MBP13 non retina through a mini DP to DP cable and it works just fine.

How do I know if both are capable of dual link DVI? Here's a photo of my cable:

I tried fiddle with the settings, no luck.

Tried contact Apple yesterday, but they didn't give me a solution. Recommend me thunderbolt display.

I don't think you are using the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. The Apple cable has a USB connector, which would suggest that it is an active connector. Yours look like a passive connector.

For the Apple connector, the DVI end is a female port, so you would still need a dual-link DVI cable to connect to the 3007. The DVI port on your cable is the male connector, which allows you to plug direct into the 3007.

I recall that passive adapters seem to give problems, while active adapters do not. That is why active adapters are so much more expensive than passive ones. For resolution at 1920x1080, you don't need an active adapter.

very expensive leh, plus the review very jialat. I'm afraid of buying this and it still doesn't work.

some dell monitor have issue with native reso on macbooks.

cant be solved.

the best you can do is select a lower reso

aiming 27" samsung monitor, mostly use to watch show and play dota2.

Using a Dell S2340L here. Usually with the 15" rMBP as a secondary display, but sometimes the rMBP is in clamshell. Nothing to note actually - just plug and play with the HDMI cable. Adjustments, if necessary, are available in System Preferences > Displays.

Nothing else actually.

Clamshell mode works perfect for my MBP on my LG TV, even have audio signal through the Thunderbolt -> HDMI connection.

cuz i tried to connect my 13" late 2013 mbp to 40" led tv. but duno why, when i tried with dota2, the screen on my tv appear quite laggy.

any idea why?

Probably your graphic card cannot handle it.

yes confirm the graphics card cannot handle it.. so it results in laggy performance but once you get back to the notebook display, it will work fine i presume.

You'll probably need to test it at the store or hear from someone who have the same exact setup.
