Reuse PSU For New PC

Hi guys. I have a 6.5 years old Seasonic X650 80+ gold PSU on my system.

I'm planing to completely overhaul my system.

Is it ok to reuse my PSU for my new pc since it is still functioning well?

Should be fine but I would suggest that if you are building a new rig, it might make sense to spend a bit more and get a new PSU. The capacitors on a PSU do wear out over time.

Nope.....i would not do that....no point putting an old psu in a completely new system. Just buy a new one.
If 1 or 2 years old still ok.....more than 5 yrs....it can go anytime.
Just my own opinion.

Your old PSU may not take the stress of a new system. So continue using it is a risk to be taken into consideration. If aging PSU kill the new rig when it goes, then factor in the time and cost to RMA the new part beside getting a new PSU too.

Recently, I retired my SuperFlower GK 550w Platinum PSU when the rig is upgraded to Ryzen as it is over 5 years old.

I would , if it's a non-critical basic surf-net pc


if I continue using it , I'll expect it to sudden death anytime

How abt for psu that is below 5yrs? It will cause the whole rig to spoilt?

x650 mtbf is 150000 hours @25c

even at typical 100000 hours, 16 hours per day is 17 years.

I thought MTBF means spread over the hours .... means if by the time u used until half of MTBF .... 50% of the same batch would be dead , the other 50% still functional

150,000 hours mtbf
means by 100,000hours ... it's 33% likely your unit survive to this point ......... 6 of 10 sets are broken
by 135,000 hours , it's 10% likely your unit survive to this point .... 9 out of 10 sets already dead

It's for the probability of failure for every +1 year of usage since it exit the factory , not to gauge the guaranteed or expected lifetime of every set

there is also another saying that every +10 degree celcius make capacitors age twice as fast

Should be no issues since your psu model is established brand.

That's an interesting point. Cos I wasn't able to find any info on that. I wanna find about about the longevity of PSUs. Especially those established brand ones.

As long as the season is good, I think you can reuse your PSU on the new PC which I assume its gonna be Ryzen? :s13::s13:

No la bro. Most probably i5 7500 paired with Gigabtye H270 Gaming mobo. :)

Actually I got another question about recycling my old stuff.

U see. I'm using a Lancool k62 casing. Thinking if I should replace the case fans as well. They are still running well. LED lights all still working. Just abit dusty.

Generally case fans can last for quite a number of years right?
