Anyone topped up revolut with a credit card within the last 3 days? Did you get charged an extra fee by your bank?

No extra fee. However, when you add a card, there is a pre-authorization charge, which would be refunded.

Anyone links Revolut to your Singapore iTunes account? I bought an app that costs S$2.98 but somehow my Revolut was deducted with S$6.98.... Is there any additional fee that I'm supposed to pay?

Did you get charged an extra fee? I read online that it might be due to a change in mcc.. Were you charged cash advance fee?

Sharing my experience when using it overseas:

Pro:
. You get the exchange rates the app is showing immediately when used. This is better than the delayed exchange rates used by Youtrip.
. Can withdraw S$350/mth from ATM without incurring any additional fees/charges.

Cons:
. The top up limit is unknown and not indicate in the app. Have to guess how much c.an be top up.
. The rates in the weekends is really really low. Do not use this card in the weekends!

Hello, new to this and keen to get the app. So for overseas spending, we are suppose to top up the app with our bank acct and then convert to the desired currency in the app before making payment? Does it work if the merchant e.g. hotels don't have contactless payment?

Top up with credit card, not bank account. Works everywhere just like a credit card. If no contactless can use magnetic stripes or chip. YOu can choose to convert in advance or leave it in SGD and let the app auto convert for you on demand.

Honestly, at the current moment, you are better off getting a youtrip card than Revolut for overseas spending. There's no weekend charge for youtrip (vs Revolut at 1% markup for weekend spend), and you face less constraints in topping up youtrip (vs Revolut which may limit your topup amount to <S$500, depending on their AI system).

Only major advantage of Revolut is free overseas ATM withdrawals for < S$300 per month, while youtrip charges S$5 per withdrawals.

It doesn’t have to be an either or scenario- use YouTrip for paywave, use Revolut for overseas withdrawal.

Thanks for the replies. But for youtrip, we can't transfer balance monies to bank acct, have to use it up by spending right?

For revolut, we can only top up max 500 each time? Not max 500 balance in the card right?

You decide yourself on the benefits of miles. For example, a S$1000 spend, would net you 0 miles on revolut (assuming no miles for top up) and almost S$1000 spend exact. However, if you use other 4mpd cards, you pay about 3.5% fee, say $35 extra. This gives 4140 miles, or to put it another way, you are paying $35 for 4140 miles or $0.00845 per mile.

See what you redeem for, if you redeem for economy to Taiwan and back, that is 30k miles or $253 you have spent on the extras miles. Do you think this is a good value? Of course, it is better "value" to redeem for business or first class. I have friends who only redeem for economy, so you have to calculate how much they are worth to yourself.

Yes, for youtrip, have to use it up by spending. If you plan carefully, you can top-up nicely eg $20.XX to get to whatever purchase you need, to zerorise the card. I have been creative with the youtrip card, so having some monies inside is fine for me.

For Revolut, esp for new users, you are subject to the whims and fancy of the Revolut AI system, esp during topup. Some can topup 1k or more daily, some face difficulties in topping up > $500 daily esp new users. No such issues topping up with youtrip.

To top up nicely, I can check that day's fx and calculate how much exactly to top up down to the cents? Haha, super noob to this. :s13:

e.g. says my hotel booking cost THB 15,925 and i check the fx to be 22.75, so i top up SGD700.00 into my youtrip?

Not sure if you can top up exactly to the cent, it's hard to predict the actual rate because it's floating and changes every minute. Better to play safe and round it up to the next dollar or next 50 cents at least. Because if you short of even 1 cent, your transaction will be rejected and you will have to top up a minimum of $20 again which defeat the purpose. You can always pay a local bill with any excess funds to zero your card exactly. Don't risk it with forex.

If you really want to do that, use this website to calculate your expected rate. Enter zero bank fee. But do allow small tolerances.

Edit : Oh yes, you can also just use the in-app real time FOREX calculator.

I think its better to zerorise the card when you are back in SG, and done with the overseas travel. Not during the trip....

eg after your overseas trip, if your groceries cost $32.XX, if you have $10 inside, you can topup an amount of $22.XX to zerorise the card (min $20).

i'm looking at the miles blogs and they seem to value kf miles in the region of 1.7-2.0 cents per mile. that means for 4140 miles you're getting back $70.38 of value on top of the $1000. at 7%, it beats any fx savings you get. not sure how they arrive at the miles value estimate though. generally my trips are further to na/eu.
btw, which card offers reliable 4mpd that isn't capped by a low threshold?
