Hi

I Intend to get a new computer for some games like GTA5, Witcher 3. Budget is around $1500 for just the desktop components + case.

Prices are from PCthemes list update Oct.

CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-4460 + either
  • MSI B85-G43 Gaming ($431). What's the diff between these 2 huh?
  • MSI H81M-E35v2 ($353)

RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 CL10 8GB ($105)
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GB GAMING OC @ ($600)
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB @ ($169)
HDD: Western Digital Blue/Green 3 TB ($~170)
PSU: Super Flower Leadex Silver 650W [80 Plus Silver] @ $129

CPU + Mobo -

You have a pretty decent budget, and considering that you're still willing to go for haswell, you can focus much more of your cash into the graphics processor. As previous poster said, skylake is always an option for ddr4, but not necessary at 1080 to utilise a 970.

Graphics card -

According to your specs, you seem to want to run in 1080p ultra? Cause if you're gonna push multi monitor or 4k you'd want to trade up the Gpu. Otherwise the 970 crushes that price point.

PSU:

What I've learnt from other forumers is to go for higher standards, and lower wattage. The 970 does not require a 650w PSU. I would go for a gold PSU but lower wattage.

Thanks for your helpful inputs guys

I still have my old PSU, 550W, think that'll do it? BTW what's the lifespan of a PSU, mine is close to 6years already.

Nah I won't be going for multi monitor or 4k resolution, probably 1080.

I bought all parts already except for the MOBO+CPU and GPU. Got the kingston value 8gb value ram instead of the HyperX, read that normal users won't need the EC and dual ram won't give much performance increase.

Usually a faulty PSU will take away other parts along with it..
