Greetings, I'm unsure where ask so I'll just post this here.

Upon deciding to embark on an RFID Project, I'm faced with some obstacles, which I hope to find some guidance out of these murky woods. I have absolutely no background of electrical/hardware related things but I'm willing to try nonetheless.

I'll be referencing everything from this website: t4f(dot)org/category/projects/open-rfid-tag/. Also, I'm doing this purely for educational purposes as I've always wanted to get started on these weekend projects but never found the time to do it.

Basically, I want to attempt to replicate the Open RFID tag mentioned in the website. The parts list which proves to be my conundrum is as follows:
R1, R2: 470 ohms. 1206 SMD package.
R3, R4: 1K. 1206 SMD package.
R5, R6: 10K. 1206 SMD package.
R7: 100 ohms. 1026 SMD package.
C1: 8.2nF 50V X7R ceramic capacitor. 1206 SMD package.
C2: 220uF 16V electrolytic capacitor. 6.3mm SMD case.
C3: 22uF 6.3V tantalum capacitor. “A” SMD case.
C4: 100nF 50V X7R ceramic capacitor. 1206 SMD package.
C5, C6: 22nF 50V X7R ceramic capacitor. 1206 SMD package.
D1: 5.1V Zenner diode, 0.5W. SOD-80C case.
D2, D3: BAT721S dual Schottky diode. SOT23 package.
LED1: Yellow LED. 1206 SMD package.
LED2: Green LED. 1206 SMD package.
S1, S2: Tactile SPNO Switch, TYCO, SMD package.
Q1: BC846. SOT23 package.
IC1: PIC12F683. SOIC8 package.
SV1: 6 pin header.

I would like to know a little more about these "1206 SMD" components and how rare or convenient finding these little guys are. Also, does anyone have any ideas or recommendations where I can get my hands on these parts and how I can get the PCB printed out (including home DIY printing with ferric chloride)?

One more side note, I have a raspberry pi too which I hope to utilise. Can anybody enlighten me how to get a relatively cheap RFID read/write module for 125khz?

Thanks for taking the time going through this and helping me with my molehill of a plight.

Try the RFID kit from sparkfun. Save your trouble.

Thanks for letting me know. Looks pretty interesting. Though I'd much rather like to get my hands dirty, put it together on my own and feel the satisfaction which I've never had before.

Fortunately, I managed to get almost all the components from sg.element14.com. So no turning back now.

Looking back, if only I did a little more research, I wouldn't have needed to ask such a silly question here.

Now I'm just having difficulties trying to do the toner transfer. It's only been giving me disappointing results. I've tried it with glossy magazine paper and transparency film. To no avail, it always ends up in a half-hearted looking PCB.

Well, more testing lies ahead.
