Hi all, I am building a comp for my mum.
I will be reusing my M/B Asrock H77 Pro4, hard disk and ram, monitor, mouse and keyboard.

I am planning to get the i3 3220, case and FSP power supply.
Not planning to purchase graphic card as mum's main usage is surf net, online movie, FB and maple.

1. For the onboard graphic card able to support the above usage?

2. Previously when i plug my system to my monitor (1920x1080) fresh after installing windows 7, before i install the graphic card driver. i notice that the screen graphic will not cover the whole screen. Only after installing the graphic card i can scale it under the graphic card options.

Therefore if using onboard graphic, where is the option i can do scaling if i encounter such a issue??

Please kindly advise
thank you very much

Wah your mum play maple... not bad ;)
Onboard graphics can support.
Maybe you wanna consider a Pentium instead of i3 since her usage so light.

After you install your drivers, just right click desktop > screen resolution is set to 1920x1080. Then click advanced settings > Intel graphics and media control panel to set the scaling.

Yes.

On your monitor.
Make sure the resolution is set to 1080p beforehand.

How about just getting a $400 Samsung laptop from qoo10? Should be sufficient for your mum's needs.

Intel Celeron G1610 will actually suffice. ;) But if her Facebook activities involves Flash-based games, you should consider Pentium G2020 (or even Pentium G2120 but definitely not Core i3) since flash games still primarily taps on CPU resource and they will not run smooth enough on Celeron G1610. Core i3 is simply a premium too costly over Pentium G2120. I'd actually also advise you get in combo rather than buying the processor alone for substantial savings after selling the accompanying motherboard. You can also choose to sell your H77 Pro4/MVP instead and use the new motherboard.

e.g. Intel Celeron G1610 + ASRock B75M-DGS cost from $122, motherboard alone costs $98 while Celeron G1610 costs $58. After giving discount to motherboard buyer, let say sell for $90, you effectively only spends $32 for the CPU alone and saves $26. ;)

For PSU i'd recommend FSP300-50HMN from $36, which in reality operates within 80 Plus Bronze efficiency despite the omission of 80 Plus certification. It is only covered by a very short 18 months local warranty though. If you prefer longer warranty then you can consider FSP Raider 450W from $68, which is covered by a 5 years local warranty. Despite the series' failure in crossload tests and voltage fluctuation out of specification, those scenarios will only occur on much older platform (Pentium 4 and earlier) systems where different voltage rails are frequently used, meanwhile the out of spec voltage fluctuation occurs mainly at high PSU load (>500W) which is very far fetch from such mummy's PC on max load. FSP Raider series also operates between 80 Plus Silver and Gold efficiency even with just 80 Plus Bronze certification. And it performs at its best efficiency towards low load unlike most other PSU series (towards median 50% load) which makes it the ultimate choice for such light task, low power PC. :)

FSP 450 at $68 is a good buy based on the efficiency & 5y
If you want a different view, CM475 psu is $60 & 3y
Of cos, diff class they are.
For the maple playing mum, the pentium2020 is good, with a b75 asrock.
the rest is just the frills
dump in 8gb of ram for good measure

Was intrigued by the price so looked it up... only found this listing at $449: Qoo10-Singapore - Computer / Laptop - [SAMSUNG] IMPROVED VER. 14inch N...

However, 2 things stood out:
- Instead of the advertised "Celeron 875" (which does not exist btw), a few of the user reviews with pictures of the label on the box are stating AMD E1 processor, and at least one of the laptop pictures has an AMD E series sticker.
- The seller/shop has an interesting reputation: http://forums.vr-zone.com/singapore...84-extremely-bad-buyer-dennis-90078008-a.html

Caveat emptor :)

Yup looks good to go. :) You can get those items from Tradepac and bargain for bundle pricing for your PSU.
