Hi guys, can I get some help from the rig gurus here?

Looking to set up a rig for my dad, will reuse the old DVD drives and SATA HDD .

Wanna ask about the best combo in terms of mobo+CPU+ram+PSU+case? Needs are mainly web, word/powerpoint/excel, SPSS, video playback. No games.

Hoping to get at least an i5-4XXX CPU....on-board graphics should suffice right?

Budget $450, the lower the better.

Thanks in advance:s12:

i5 for $450 really hard to do, you'll probably need to resort to used if you really want it.
mobo and cpu: asrock h81m-hds and i3 4160 $237
ram: kingston ddr3 4gb valueram $32
psu: fsp hexa+ 450w $58
case: coolermaster n200(cashtronic) $52
ssd(optional):adata sp550 120gb $69
total:$379(no ssd),$448(ssd)
everything except the case is from pcthemes. try to ask around for price quotes before buying.

Don't get SSD, use that extra $70 to top up for i5 CPU.
PSU can go lower Wattage since no GPU and go 8GB Ram.

the ssd was stated as optional. and i3 upgrade to i5 with same motherboard would cost $96 extra. add up together alr over budget, still want to go 8gb ram?

while SSD is not a must-have, it is good to have and overall improves the user's experience

like wise for TS needs don't even need i5 LOL

Thanks everyone for their input, much appreciated!

I guess the i5 is more for psychological reassurance more than true performance needs ;D

I have an old casing I can use, but it is generic hence I dunno how good the casing fan and airflow within the case is like.

Will it cause heating problems with 4xxx series processors? If no problems, then maybe I can save a little more $$ on the case. Thanks!
